“A pleasant oasis in a pleasant city”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

These are Frankfurt’s Botanical gardens, not far from the Alte Oper. As might be expected, we found the gardens clean and well organised. The admission fee is €7 per adult [16.8.2013). There are several modern greenhouses containing a variety of different plants and habitats from around the world and a series of gardens laid out with flower beds, fountains, etc. The oldest buildings house those plants (e.g. palms) that need the warmest and most moist conditions. The gardens are very tranquil and are located in an attractive part of the city. Our only problem was wasps, as Frankfurt has plenty of them in August. Allow yourself 2/3 hours for a visit. Overall we enjoyed the gardens, we felt the fee was reasonable value and the location was worth a visit.

“Calm and peaceful”

The Palmgarten in Frankfurt is a haven of peace and quiet. The plants and flowers are beautiful, no matter what season you visit.

“A haven of tranquility”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

We went to the Palmgarten and spent a very pleasant 2 - 3 hours there. The gardens are very nice and there are a couple of restaurants for lunch or coffee. We were on the Hop On/Hop Off Bus and having seen most of the sights of Frankfurt, this was a delightful part of Frankfurt to spend some time. Nearby are the streets where we hunted out the Stolpersteine which are the memorials to the Jews of Frankfurt who were deported to the death camps. They are a poignant part of the city.

“Varied grounds and a good restaurant too”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

It was bigger and more varied than we'd imagined. There were several buildings dotted around the grounds, housing plants from all round the world. The palm house was mainly being used as an exhibition. The restaurant (at Sunday lunchtime) was very busy and some people had to wait for a table to become free, but as most people had cake and a drink rather than 2-3 courses, turnover was quite rapid. Good service. It wasn't one of our main targets when visiting Frankfurt but we spent much longer there than expected and were very pleased to do so.

“Excellent Botanic Gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

A wonderful way to spend half a day. This is one of the best gardens we have seen in the world. The temperature controlled greenhouses were amazing with plants from all around the world and all labeled. They were dome shaped and we flowed from one to the next. Another shed displayed flowering plants full of colour and a large shed with a display of different vegetables growing in boxes with samples of their seeds & nuts, plus showing the history of each vegetable. The park is quite large with lawns, waterfalls & ponds, lots of turtles & birds. You can walk through a tunnel under the waterfall. There is a little train that goes around the park.
