Good things first: the hotel is really 50m away from the main station, incredibly handy to go anywhere in a short time. Staff was friendly, helpful and everybody spoke good english. Rooms were clean and modern. Hotel wifi worked pretty well even in the rooms (but at 5€/30min wasn't cheap). Rooms on the back are very quiet, it's very possible to sleep with open windows and not hearing nearly any noise at all.
The bad things now: the single room is really small. Like a bed, a desk and no space to move between them. The bed sheets weren't changed in 6 days, which I think is a bit too long for proper hygiene. Breakfast was average: a good choice of everything but always the same, not much quantity (croissants terminated every single day before 8:00 and weren't replenished), scrambled eggs not properly heated and the same kind of cakes for 6 days. Given that breakfast is included in the rate is still worth the price but I've had much better choice at other 3 stars hotels, even in Germany. Tv channels were very limited: CNN only for not german speaking people. There were tens of other channels listed but all were scrambled. The hotel was full of non-german people and I find quaint that there are basically no tv channels for them.
Overall, if you only care for a room in a great location and a breakfast that, albeit not particularly tasty, gets you going for the day, book the Hamburger Hof. If you need more, find a 4 star hotel in Bahnhofsviertel (so to retain a handy location) if you can get a bargain.
