“Near Station and 10 minutes from Christmas markets”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

Stayed here recently for business. On the plus side it is close to the train station which has a direct train to the airport. It is also 10 minutes from the Christmas markets. The staff are very friendly and helpful. As you would expect for a budget hotel the rooms are fairly basic but they are clean.

We stayed here for one night as we were due to catch an early flight to Caracas next day. This appears to be quite a new hotel and everything looked to be fresh and up-to-date. Our room wasn't enormous but it was perfectly acceptable and everything worked properly. Good continental buffet style breakfast is included in the very reasonable room rate. This hotel is no more than a seven minute stroll from the main railway station and is very convenient for the airport train, which only takes 15 minutes. There is really is no good reason to stay out near the airport when the train is so convenient and reasonably priced.
There is a room safe and WiFi, although the WiFi is not free. Various packages are available and the minimum charge is 1Euro for 30 minutes. If the Wifi had been free I would have rated this 5 stars as I couldn’t find any other fault.

This hotel appears brand new, with high quality materials used in the fabric of the building - lovely marble staircase - and everywhere was spotless. It feels very secure (good for single female traveller) with keycard needed to use lift and open doors onto each floors. The doors to each floor close silently, so the room was very peaceful. Good location for central Frankfurt. Staff were helpful in calling taxis and providing information about the location.

Negatives: towels very thin. No dining facility (as expected, obviously, but Chinese and Italian restaurants across the road - went to Italian and it was good value). TV channel selection poor for English traveller. Internet access costs extra (not too bad tho at 5 euros per day but was only for 1 device).

Room Tip: I was on the 4th floor - was nice and quiet.

I liked the location close to Frankfurt main train station, and the hotel is new (openned in 2011) , the rate was not bad but didn't find the staff to be friendly and the breakfast selection was poor.

As it became a habit to check the reviews before booking a hotel, this Holiday Inn had mixed reviews but good one in general. I am glad I stayed there because the hotel was good. The service and staff were nice and helpful. The rooms spacious and clean. I liked the choice of pillows given so I finally got nice firm pillows. My room was on the fourth floor so no much noise was filtering in as that was a complaint by one reviewer. I liked the security in the hotel as you need your key to go on upper floors and in the section where your room is. The hotel provided breakfast in the morning. It was basic but ok to begin the day especially in winter. WiFi is not free but it was fast and consistent. The location was very good where there are many restaurants and small shops around the hotel. The trains station and shopping areas are walking distance away. I like it

2 blocks north & 2 blocks east of Hbf. Area is nowhere near as bad as some claim. A very good Turkish restaurant at corner.

Charge of 5 euros per 24 hour wi-fi access per device. Once you enter userid & pw supplied you cannot use that info on any other device. I actually find that absurd in today's wi-fi age.

Staff at reception are not consistent. We were told coffee from the breakfast area was free until 10pm when the machine was turned off. Two staff said this was true and two other staff said false. We came in from a walk around the area and wanted a warm drink. As soon as we got coffee a HORRIBLE man came from reception and started loudly telling us coffee was not available unless we paid for it.

This is the kind of behavior I expected to see in the movies a la show me your papers. It would behoove management to either insure consistency across staff or not worry about something as silly as a cup of coffee.

The final point is that the rooms lack any place to put you clothing except for a small closet to hang a coat. We were here for 5 nights and never unpacked our suitcases.

One, if not the main reason why you stay at a HIE is because you know what you get. This is no exception, well maybe for the WiFi charge, that up to this point I still dont understand why a business hotel like this would charge you for it. Rooms are spacious, clean, large bathrooms, seems like a new hotel, and covers all the basics. Only drawback was that they didnt have a queen or king bed room to offer, as a couple we had several hotels that would join two small beds (smaller than twin I'd say) and offer that as a matrimonial bed. Funny thing each bed has it own sheets. After asking for a different room they decided to grant us free wifi access due the fact that they where fully booked, so I liked their customer service. Breakfast was very basic, nothing to cheer about. For one or two nights its ok. Really close to the train station and not far from main attractions in the city. Recommended.
