“Nice stop in a good neighborhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2012

A unique experience. Very good food in a cozy bench-style atmosphere! Also, many good bars close by for an after-dinner drink!

“Nice Atmosphere, Average Cuisine”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2012

Struwwelpeter presents itself as a typical traditional German restaurant with long tables and benches meant to encourage communal dining. Whimsical charicature art graces the walls and, of course, Sachsenhausen Apfelwein is served. The service was prompt and acceptable. The cuisine on this occasion however was unremarkable. Perhaps it was because the staff was anxious to close early, at 4pm, because of the New Years Eve holiday. My wife ordered the pork steak with pepper sauce. While the sauce itself was fine, the pork was on the dry side and the roast potatoes were a bit overdone. My "Sachsenhausenschnitzel" was served with an unusual onion and baked cheese topping. This has the potential of being a tasty offering but instead the rather heavy cheese had a rubbery texture that just could not rescue the dish.

This place is not bad, and could be a lot of fun with a group. Just don't expect a culinary experience.

“Like a Fairytale!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2011

My customer took me to Struwwelpeter when I suggested a "typical German" meal - it was the only one I was going to get on this trip. The place was outstanding! Typical Frankfurt with Apfelwein, sausages, schweinshaxe, etc. And, it brought me back to the time when I was young because one of my real memories of having lived in Germany as a 4-year old was the fairytale Struwwelpeter!
