“My favorite hotel in town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Really good hotel in the center of the city. Nice rooms, friendly reception, close to all the shops and cafes. Never had breakfast in the hotel, it's way too expensive.
Stayed here for 4-5 times and never was disappointed. Can recommend it for sure.

The hotel is just in the city center, next to TU Darmstad and the conference center. It is extremly easy to reach by bus, streetcar and taxi. it is extremely quiet, the rooms are big, comfortable, with so many amenities and a lot of bathrobe. There is a LAN connection in every room, and a free connection for the superior rooms. You can choose the TV languages and set the room temperature in very easy way. Fitness centre is free to use.Truly recommend

Location:

Biggest plus is the location esp. if you are visiting the university of TU Darmstadt (the hotel is within the univ. campus) or want to be close to the city center (Luisenplatz area), or have a conference in the Darmstadium (green glass building across the road). For such a central location, a nit is the lack of parking - I was told there is an underground parking garage but I could not figure out the dang entrance as the hotel entry come rapidly off the main road.

Anyway, the other location plus is the immediate proximity to the City Center (Luisenplatz and Rathaus - basically walk through the castle opposite the hotel) and a large selection of restaurants and shopping areas are there. The Hessen Landesmuseum is maybe 200 yards from the hotel.

Lobby etc - simple but functional. Lots of glass which gives a nice airy feel.

Rooms:

Small but fully equipped. I am glad I had read a prior review which mentioned 2 useful things (a) on the TV remote one can select the "English" option to bring up English channels - neat, and (b) close the windows fully if you want the A/C to run - on a prior visit I had struggled to figure out why it would kick off :-)

WiFi: Is pricey! However, IF you are from any other university around the world, do check your EDUROAM username/passwords - as the hotel gets all the TU Darmstadt's WiFI networks, EDUROAM allows you to connect for free.

Food:

Breakfast is super! lots of choices of cold cuts, hot dishes, pastries and esp. coffee/cappuccino options. Its worthwhile to double check that the room rate includes the buffet (it usually does though recently during peak season they seem to skip this on some rates).

There is a nice Bisto outside as a 2nd option - good but pricey. Its far easier to walk to the Rathaus restaurant (across the road, through the castle and you are there) where they have excellent beers and local dishes on the ground floor, and a fuller restaurant upstairs. Lots of other restaurant and fast food options all around.

Misc.

- One nice thing is that the hotel sits right off (100 yards) the main city garden called Herrengarden - great for jogging, has lots of bike pathways and there is a lovely rose garden and church at the right end of the garden. Nice gentle place popular with students, joggers and families.

- You can also skip taxis by taking the trams from the city's transport hub - Lusienplatz - that is 2-3 mins across the castle. A tram to the train station takes about 5-7 mins

- Getting resv. at the hotel seems to be a pain. The website would always show booked; calling resulted in an easier reservation.

Overall nice though the prices are often Euro 100-150 that are a bit high for this city. For much lower prices there are other nice hotels closeby - the Parkhotel in Luisenplatz being an example one.

Room Tip: Take the hotels facing the front right where you get views of the Herrengarden

I've traveled many times to the Frankfurt/Darmstadt area and stayed in many different places there. This was my first time to stay at the Weclome Hotel in Darmstadt. Generally speaking its a decent place to stay and better than most of the other options in Darmstadt. It's kind of hard to see from the road as it sits behind another building so watch carefully as you approach the address. The parking garage is very good and the entrance is on the right just past the hotel itself. The rooms are average size and clean. Overall a reasonable hotel.

Good business hotel, room had a bathroom nicely separted by a wall of melkglass. So some tempered light into to bathroom. Stayed on the front side which has the square which was a bit noisy during the night. Rooms are not to big but nice, stayed here business wise a few nights
Breakfest buffet ok with many breakfest options, including a DIY press to make fress orange juice.
Bar ok with a good german collection of beers, like Hefe Weise one of my favorites during summer time.

I have stayed at the Welcome Hotel on a few occasions now, all of which have been for business. The hotel is located very near the city center and is very modern and updated. The rooms, although small by US standards, are quite acceptable and very clean. The rates have always been competitive to nearby hotels and average around 150 euros/night depending on when you stay.

A couple of pointers on the hotel room. There is an english language selection for TV channels. You have to select it on the TV menu and it is a nice option. To enable the room AC, ensure that your window is closed (completely) otherwise it turns off. There are english (and other languages) directions in the hotel room. Finally, if you need internet access you will need to bring a cable or borrow one from the front desk. Certain rooms seem to include the internet access for free while other rooms charge. I guess it depends on the level of room you are staying in.

The breakfast option is very nice with a large selection of food. Likewise, the attached restaurant/bar has a very good selection of food and beverages.

Overall, this is a very nice hotel and well worth the costs. The location makes it even better if you want to visit Darmstadt and see what the city center is all about.

Room Tip: Be aware that if your room faces the main street you may deal with quite a bit of noise.

I stayed here for a few days on business. As I came and wend from this location, I actually stayed in 3 different rooms. Ask for a room with a view of the square. The staff was helpful and the food in the restaurant was good, though nothing special. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the town's central shopping district, and I found a few very nice open air restaurants and cafes with good example of the local food and of course, beer.

The rooms are clean and well done for a hotel in this price range. Paying for internet was not a plus, and it was some slow, hampering my ability to Skype using video.

The gym consists only of a few tired pieces of cardio equipment, but it does have a full sauna, steam room and whirlpool

I will be back

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the square
