“Small but nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

There are six shikara's in hamburg, but I went to the one in witerhude. Good food, the food is very close to what you get back here in India. Everything here is good and very reasonably priced as compared to other places around. the serving is also pretty good and two meals can be shared among three people as all the meals are served with Rice.

“Shikara Eppendorfer marktplatz”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2011

There are three Shikara restaurants in Hamburg. We went tot the Eppendorfer location.
The menu offered a lot of choices (also plenty vegetarian). Service and food were great.

“Indian cuisine redefined”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2011

For an Indian on a short visit abroad, this is the place to visit once you get tired of the relatively bland European fare !! Its a welcome change- to get the spices back into your system. Even though the food may not be on par with what gets served in Indian restaurants-its definitely quite close.
The choice of various curries (chicken/lamb/fish), biryani rice, dal, (lentils) , vegetables, and the breads( roti/nan) are quite varied- as also the accompaniments like papad and chutney et al.
For those who have not been initiated to Indian- its a good place to get a hang of what Indian cuisine promises...Go for it-its worth the adventure!!

“Perfect food and atmosphere.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2011

This is definitely the nicest and most beautiful Indian restaurant in Hamburg! It even has it's very own special garden, complete with flowers, lanterns, candles and traditional paintings on the walls for those sunny days.

You'll be blown away the moment you walk in. The layout of the place is unique with nooks, corners, and separate sections complete with cushions and squishy sofas, and the flickering flames of dozens of candles. It looks like heaven.

The service is great, the waiters being incredibly friendly and discreet, but also making you feel at ease.

The food is simply stunning and superbly presented without ever verging on the pretentious, with nicely sized portions and generous helpings of rice served with every main dish. A special mention is for the dessert - We asked one of the waiters what one of the desserts was and we were treated to a free taster each!

Shikara stands head and shoulders above any sterile, overly modern Indian restaurant you too often encounter in a large cities these days. Fantastic all round.
