“Moevenpick Hotel a good choice for Hamburg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2011

My wife and I just returned from a two week trip to Germany, including five nights in Hamburg. The Moevenpick is located in a historic structure at the edge of a park approximately 10 minutes from downtown (on the U-Bahn). The hotel is very interesting, with good service and amenities. Our room on the second floor was a bit small but within the typical range for European hotel rooms. Our room faced the S-Bahn tracks, but the excellent soundproofing meant a very quiet night's sleep. The beds were very nice, as was the bathroom. The buffet breakfast is a somewhat expensive affair, but the selection is wonderful and the setting nice as well.

Movenpick Hotels are owned, apparently, by the same family that produces the delicious ice cream of the same name. I have stayed at 3 or 4 of their hotels and this is one of the best. Convenient to the Hamburg Exhibit Halls for this conference, it is an easy 10-15 minute walk to the convention center. The Sternschanze Tube Station is a mere 50 yards away and is a convenient connection to all public transit. Built upon an old 19th(?) Century Water Tower, the interior public areas have the characteristic red brick that gives the Movenpick a unique character. Reminds me of the interior of a monestary. The Hotel is in the middle of a large park, which is very convenient for a morning run. Lots of dog owners early in the morning, but barking dogs can barely be heard through the double paned windows. Excellent bar ("The Cave") for Happy Hour. The Hotel's restaurant serves a wonderful breakfast buffet (included with room); with regional specialties for lunch and dinners. Taxi to/from Airport takes approx. 20-30 minutes (depends on commuting traffic) and costs approx. 30 Euros. Nearby there is a shopping area on Schanzenstrasse Street with restaurants and shops that cater to the local neighborhood. A most fascinating liquor store is located as you turn left on Schanzentrasse, sorry don't have name. It has a bright yellow exterior and one 6 ft. tall, 20 ft. long inside wall must have every brand and year of scotch that exists in the world. There is product not only from Scotland proper, but includes scotch from such exotic locations as Japan; South America; China, and India(?!!)

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing north; away from Tube Station

My daughter and I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in December. The Moevenpick Hotel Hamburg is quirky but beautiful. Modern and stylish with every facility, the rooms were quiet and pristine, the breakfast excellent and plentiful. Staff were friendly and helpful. An excellent hotel which we can certainly recommend.

Stayed in Moevenpick hotel for 4 nights, and i loved the hotel from the first sight. Super modern hotel within a historic building. The hotel was perfect in every aspect.
We were given a room in the 11th floor with a great view over the city of Hamburg. Perfect bed and pillows and very nice bathroom. The room was super clean and comfortable and had everything you need.
The breakfast was great with huge selection of products.Super high quality and freshness in all products. The personel in breakfast was great and very polite.
The reception staff was also very polite and proffesional.
The U-bahn (underground) is 50 meters away from the hotel which is very convenient to reach the city center in a matter of minutes.
Great businness center too.
I will certainly stay there again in the future.

I stayed at the Mövenpick for one night. The location of the hotel is near Sternschanze, which is both a train station and a part of town with exelent (but mostly alternative) bars and restaurants. The S-Bahn-station is within 5 walking minutes.
The room was very nice, quite and spotless clean. As the hotel is located in an old water-storage building the room was very characterful. The bathroom was especially nice with a glass wall looking into the room. Unfortuantely they did not provide little bottles of wash gel and shampoo but a wall-mounted dispenser instead. That I did not like.
Breakfast would have been a steep 22 Euro, so I had a traditonal Hamburg-exclusive Franzbrötchen instead at the bakery for breakfast.

This hotel was built in a 100 years old water tower. the architects faced a very challeging mission and the result is quite appealing. the hotel is about 1 minute walk from the train that goes down town and is adjacent to a nice little park.

The Mövenpick Hotel Hamburg is one of the most innovative, beautiful and strategically located hotels that I have ever seen. The view from the top floor rooms is impressive and it is an ideal location to explore this wonderful city and its harbour. The work of the reception staff goes beyond their call of duty - it is simply unparalleled. The management's work is also commendable for their care, attention to detail and costumer focus. Congratulations!
