“Very good hotel near Hauptbanhof”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

+ Spacious room with everything you need (great bed, large bathroom, minibar, safety box, etc.)
+ Very nice sauna/pool area including swimming pool, steam room, sauna, etc. (free of charge for hotel guests)
+ Close to the Hbf, about 10 min walk, with places to eat not far from hotel

+/- Not cheap, but then again good value for money (but breakfast not included)
+/- Very close to a main road, we had a room facing the courtyard so can't really say if this was a problem for others

- Wifi not included is something I find very strange when you stay at top-end hotel, but it seemed like this is the case for many Hamburg-hotels

What a fantastic place!

Check-in: quick and professional, help offered for luggage
Rooms: wonderful, wel equiped, nice shower, good beds, fantastic Alster view (go for this kind of room!)
Spa: 10-12m pool, very clean, friendly staff, nice and wel equiped fitness
Breakfast: WONDERFUL! Great view, excellent quality, eggs on demand, waffles, pancakes,...

All goes together with constant friendly service, always a smile and you get the feeling that employees like their job.

It is a short walk to the city center, perfect location
Parking is with 26/29 Euro quite expensive but you can easily find a place free of charge nearby.

We will come back - a big thank you to the entire team!

Room Tip: Take an Alsterview room

A great welcome with an efficient check-in. The Alster view room made a difference - even with a misty and cold December in Hamburg. The hotel is perfectly positioned for a 10 minute walk to the Rathaus along the Alster - or just a few minutes to the unique restaurants, bars and shops on the Lange Reihe. There is a small swimming pool, sauna ad steamroom when you feel like taking an afternoon off from the Christmas markets. The concierge was extremely helpful - right down to wrapping some Christmas presents to assist concealment on the trip home. Top floor bar with vhas well made and reasonably priced cocktails. The rooms are modern and typically Le Meridien - think pale wood, backlit glass, bamboo in vases and slick bathrooms - plus spacious and ultra clean.

The online booking very straightforward, staff were very welcoming and friendly. We looked like backpackers (as you do when you're a couple of freezing Aussies in Germany :-), but were treated respectfully and given great service in restaurants, room and reception. We included breakfast in our booking and it was well worth the money. Restaurant is rather expensive as is buying bottles of wine for the room. (Take your own is my advice) Fabulous brekky that set us up for the day. Only criticism I would have was that you have to pay for wireless access in the room - and it was 24 hours at time. I know many other hotels also charge, but really, when you pay this much for a room, why charge for wireless? There was access to wireless and computers in the lobby. Room was compact, fabulous view over the lake (esp for the New Years fireworks) and I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for Lake view and take at least a deluxe room to get value for money.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

When we booked the Le Meridien we thought we would have a comfortable stay in a 5 star hotel. This was not exactly the case. The arrival was good and the staff was nice. When we got out of the elevator on our floor we already noticed the "design" which wasn't our thing but then again that is just a style. We personally didn't like the lighting, it kind of made the hallway look like a hospital. But again, that is not something I would deduct from a rating for. Our room was ok. It was big enough, modern (this style we liked) and the bathroom looked nice. One of the first things we noticed though was how scratched the wood floor was. The next thing we noticed is that the hair dryer was in the hallway instead of the bathroom. Still something we could live with though. The TV was big and there was a little "sofa" in front of the bed so it was comfortable watching TV. The beds were very comfortable.
The problems however started the next morning. First we ordered breakfast via room service. They brought our breakfast in and after they left we sat down to start eating. We noticed that three of the things we ordered were not delivered. We called and they quickly brought those up. However, for a 5 star hotel I would expect at least a decent breakfast. The rolls were not fresh (they were not crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, they were just like cardboard). The eggs we ordered were ok, but not on par with other hotels we stayed at.
At 9 am someone rang our bell. I was on the way to open the door and they already rang again and again. I screamed that I was coming to open the door but they opened the door just a moment after that. It was housekeeping!!! I told them that we were still in the room and he just looked at me as if he was annoyed that we were still in the room (at 9 am!!!). Half an hour later the door bell rang again. This time it was the mini bar service asking if we needed anything. First of all we were checking out that day, so they could have just refilled it when we left. But second it was 9:30 am.
Another 15 minutes later the door bell rang again. Again it was housekeeping. By this time I was slightly annoyed and just looked at him when I opened the door. He said that they needed to clean the room at some point. It was not even 10 am!!!!!
We decided to quickly have our shower and get out of the room before being bothered again. This is something I would not expect at a property like this. We will definately not be back. There are definately better hotels in the city for that price.

Le Meridien is supposedly a first class Hotel in Hamburg. Reality does not support this. I am a frequent traveler and Starwood executive club member for years.
After a long transatlantic journey I was trying to take a nap before an important business dinner. No "do-Not disturb " sign at the door, but a "red button". I press that. Sure enough 15 min into my nap housekeeping rings the bell, pounds the door and does not stop until I open. I complain, ask for privacy etc. I go back to sleep. 60 min later - same thing. At least 5 rings until I open the door..

So if you need to relax during the day, stay anywhere in Hamburg but DO NOT choose this hotel

The staff and service were great - extremely helpful and welcoming. The deluxe room excellent - modern, tastefully decorated, spacious, quiet, well equipped (including tea and coffee making facilities). Convenient walking distant to main city area (5 minutes). Loved the big bath and spacious shower. The breakfast and dining were very good. I enjoyed everything about this hotel.
