“Grand hotel of style, elegance, comfort and great value for this quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2013

We had very high expectations which were fully met... wonderful, quiet, spacious room with a large and well appointed bathroom, excellent breakfast of high quality ingredients such as freshly squeezed orange juice, smoked salmon, fresh salmon and amazing fresh pastries and breads from the bakery. Excellent and charming service throughout the hotel. Fantastic concierge with a can do attitude. Super spa with a lovely pool and expert staff and a great menu including lobster. The restaurants are brilliant with great quality and prices. The hotel has a lovely ambience despite it being very busy. We visited Hamburg for the first time for the Christmas markets and the hotel is in easy walking distance to the lakes and main square. The hotel is one stop from the central railway station. Without a doubt, one of the best hotels we have stayed in anywhere in the world. The service was certainly the best we have had in Europe. A distinctive and elegant hotel of great charm and comfort deserving of 5 stars.

Room Tip: Book early !

3 nights spent at this hotel were fabulous. The room (631) was spotless, including the pale cream carpet! Bed enormous, bathroom had everything one could need and was again spotlessly clean.
Only thing missing was tea and coffee making facilities in the room, but these do not seem standard in continental hotels. We enjoyed meals and drinks in the Boulevard cafe. The hotel was only a few minutes walk from Dammtor station and bus stops for a quick trip into the centre of Hamburg. Swimming pool a good size with excellent showers and changing facilies. All staff pleasant and helpful and all spoke excellent english.
Would definitely use this hotel again.

Room: clean and large. Bathroom has scratches on the walls and needs repair. Strange noises during night from the bottom, e.g. noise insulation is not the best one. No pillow menu, mattress was quite hard.
Oyster bar: terrible service, prices are as for four star hotel, but service is like in local pub, slow and poor. However, food was fine.
Both Piazza Romana and Bourbon Bar are excellent, as usual.
Check-in: slow and non-informative. Check-out: excellent.
In general lack of stable quality service.
Typical business hotel, breakfast either early, either late, between 8 and 9 is over crowded.

It is all these things. A hotel for business people and conventioneers really. If you are looking for charm and coziness, this is not the hotel for you. But it is adequate for an overnight stay, with good parking. You are charged quite a bit, however, for everything: parking, breakfast, etc. Even a small paper cup of coffee is 3 euros. Generally, we have found our stays acceptable, but this last time the toilet flushing was a little doubtful, the rug was not cleaned each day, and there were, on several days, unidentifiable scraping, scuffing, running noises from the floor above. And yes, the Internet, while included in the price, is indeed slow. Try to eat an early breakfast as the breakfast room is very crowded and noisy by 8:00.

There is not so much to say. Room was great and very clean. I have never slept in a more comfortable hotel bed before. Internet is a bit slow but decent. Breakfast was OK though breakfast room was very full.
Would definitely stay again though the price is hefty and downtown is a short bus ride away.

I really liked this hotel. My room was large and spotlessly clean. It looked over the park (extra cost) and was quiet. The courtyard rooms would likely be equally quiet and equally comfortable. The room was well-planned, with a good work area/desk. The Wi-Fi worked well.

While the hotel is not cheap, I thought it was good value, especially since the rate was significantly reduced when booking through the hotel website.

Breakfast was excellent (as it should have been at the price), with a great selection of tasty items. As others have mentioned, the breakfast room can get a bit busy.

I found the staff to be uniformly helpful and well-informed. All spoke excellent English.

This is a nice area of Hamburg, close to the lakes, and within a short walk of the downtown. I would definitely return.

This is the 19th hotel I have stayed in this year and unfortunately it would have to be in the bottom few. In its day it may have been a grand hotel (I noted the 1996 hotel of the trophy on display) but it really is tired. The room we stayed in is a good size and it is in a good location. For a hotel of this stature there are certain things that you expect. For example a room with an iron and ironing board rather than a single ironing room on the third floor where all the delegates to the conference I was attending seemed to be queuing up to iron shirts at the same time. Also a room safe that doesn't have a key that you have to carry round all day. A shower that is not in a bath (I know that is not uncommon but it is still a bug bear of mine). Staff that can smile and be pleasant all of the time rather than surly and matter of fact. Temperature that can be easily adjusted so that it is not constantly hot so that we have to sleep with the windows open.

Would I stay here again? I stayed hear for six nights but in don't think I would stay at thus hotel again.
