“Friendly, well located, hotel not far from city centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2014

Selected hotel from Tripadvisor and Laterooms reviews. 15 minute walk from Binnenalster. Relatively quiet but can here faint rumblings of passing trains and odd police siren during night. Set back from road. Rooms decently thought out and very clean. Bathroom small but well appointed. Bed very comfortable, Breakfasts have decent continental food choice. Free wifi. Mini bar. Suitable for business and social, leisure visits. On reflection I should have chosen hotels near Strandkai. Price paid was good value. Tom C Notts

Room Tip: Young lady in room next door told me the sauna was good on site! I liked Captains bar. Full of naval...

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. The rooms were clean and nice, our room had windows to the backyard alley, so it was quiet all night. The train station is in walking distance. Cab to the center but it wasn't expensive. The breakfast buffet was huge and very good, personnel was friendly and helpful.
Be careful when ordering a cab back, the taxi drivers tend to mix up the two best western hotels in the city, since both of them have 'Raphael' in the name, it happened to us on the first night!

Room Tip: Rooms with window to the backyard are very quiet.

Good value hotel. Clean and well kept. Staff are polite and friendly.
Get off the S/U bahn at Berliner Tor and walk to it from there rather than Hauptbahnhof bit of a nicer walk.
Near to bars and restaurants of St Georg. Turn left when u come out of hotel then left again and walk towards lidl. Then walk up danzinger strasse opp lidl and theres a lovely cathedral and bars etc at the end.
I say all this because we ended up taking a wrong turn and ending up in a red light sleazy area. Don't let that put you off Hamburg though as it is lovely!

The Best Western Plus St. Raphael is within walking distance from the main train station. In Germany, near a train station is not your best neighbourhood, and neither is this. One may not feel entirely comfortable walking around, although usually you won't run into any problems.

The hotel itself isn't bad. OK rooms, adequately furnished and with all amenities needed. Friendly staff and very good breakfast. So basically all one needs for a short stay. And best of all, for a hotel in a central location of a major city, room rates are quite reasonable.

Nevertheless, if you are looking for anything special, or if you are expecting a hotel with a pleasant atmosphere where a somewhat demanding traveller would be comfortable on a longer stay, this is not your place.

This hotel is located close to the centre behind the main train station. A bit worn down, but not too bad - and they do keep it clean.
Kind staff. Good parking in closed back-yard. they enjoy 4 stars - I would call it a good 3-star quality.

The St. Raphael is a small and nice hotel within walking distance from the city center and to the Lange Reihe with all nice restaurants and bars. The room was spacious (we got a family room) and clean. The hotel has their own parking lot, but at the time we were there it was occupied by some party tents. There is also a reasonably priced official parking within 2 min walk from the hotel. However don't forget that in Germany cash still seems to be king... You should always bring cash to parking lots, restaurants and bars.

Then location is good, but as others have advised, its best to stick to the Adenauralee when walking to the train station area. A train station area may not sound like anything interesting but in Hamburg it is an attraction in its own right. It may be because the red light area is well away from the train station.

The rooms are OK. Nothing spectacular but up to any modern standard. Very clean and well furnished with little signs of wear.

The staff were very pleasant on arrival and check in was swift and with no problems.

Breakfast was typically German, and done well. No curled up cheese or sweaty salami.

I am hesitant to tell you about this hotel's best attraction. Its the "Fitness area" on the top floor. Its actually a superbly designed area of jacuzzi, sauna and a totally stunning glazed relaxation area which faces over the street. Relaxation does not do it justice. I could, and did, spend hours in this area. Imagine just watching the world go by below and then at a whim, getting into the jacuzzi (even there you can see the street) and then settling into the chairs to again relax. Wonderful.

Room Tip: The ones facing Adenauerallee are noisier but interesting.
