“Very nice...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013

The hotel is perfectly located in the posh and shopping area of Hamburg. It is also a quiet area so no hassle at all. It is ideally located and within walking distance from everything. We chose this hotel especially for this reason, no hassle about getting a cab/train/bus for dinner or for sighseeing. The room was nice, clean and comfortable. It is spacious and had everything you need for a long weekend. The bathroom was fine, clean but could do with a bit of renovation. We had access to the lounge which had a nice breakfast and drinks/snacks. Service from all staff from reception to door man to cleaners was very good, friendly and professional. I spoke to them in english and german and that didn't make any difference to the service received. I would definitely recommend this hotel and go back for my next visit to Hamburg.

I've stayed at most of the major Hamburg hotels over the last 15 years.. Radisson Blue, Renaissance, Kompenski etc.. The Marriott is always my go and I'm rarely disappointed.

The Marriott is located at Gansa Market area which is near to the Alster lakes.. Everything you need... shopping, restaurants, bars etc are just a short walk. The U2 U-Bahn is 50m away..

If you drive into the downtown part of hamburg (neustadt area) or anywhere in hamburg you know it's always a challenge as it is in many old cities.. Use your GPS and be patient and avoid the peak traffic.. There is a decent amount of parking underground at the hotel (28e a day so it's pricey but parking is at all the hotels.. If you are coming to Hamburg and don't require the use of a car take a taxi from the airport is always my recommendation.

Rooms are nice, typical Marriott style.. You love it or hate it.. I'm fine with it.. Friendly and helpful staff..

The restaurant isn't my favorite. The evening menu is a little fussy and pricy, I rarely see to many people eating there. so hopefully they will change that and go to more broad menu.. However the bar has sandwiches, burgers and a few items so I'd usually eat there.. however there are many other restaurants in the area.

Wifi is decent but as typical in Europe never included in room...

In short it's a good hotel with few bad surprises.. I'll continue to stay here repeatedly. .

Room Tip: The inside rooms facing the center sometimes are a bit noisy with deliveries in the early morning...

My family and I stayed for a week to visit the Christmas markets. Our room was ok but a bit warm down and the air con kept the room far too warm making sleeping very uncomfortable other than that everything was ok. That was till after we tried to check out, we asked if it was possible to get a late check out we where only allowed 2pm my grandmother (a fluent German speaker) asked in German for her own rooms late check out and was allowed a 3pm check out which was in direct contradiction to what I was told at the desk ....

We had the pleasure of staying at the Marriott in Hamburg for the weekend and enjoyed the very central location and the overall good experience.

Nice rooms with ok size, nice staff and large swimming pool/sauna area that can be used with kids as well.

Can recommend the local restaurant "Speicher 52" in the hotel, where it is also possible to combine the menu with the more "easy food" from the Piano bar (for instance if one just want the good burger) - great service and nice staff.

Wonderful hotel ,great staff , fabulous food, great big room, location the best .
Christmas market just outside the door. Shopping also just outside the front door .
Only complaint would be that the swimming pool was a little on the cool side .

Room Tip: Executive room deal worth the extra money .

I have just returned from a 2 night stay at this very nice hotel. The hotel is very central and within walking distance to all shops and German Christmas markets, the hotel is very modern and clean,
The concierge are not as good as other hotels I have stayed in world wide but the staff on reception were very friendly and helpful. I didn't have chance to use the pool facilities so I can not comment on them.
Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice for everyone with hot or cold options.
The piano bar in the hotel is excellent, the gent that was playing the piano was very good and ask people preference of different songs, he also has an excellent sense of humour which is hard to come by these days.

Stayed for two nights visiting the Christmas markets. Although walkable, decided to take a taxi from the Hauptbahnhof since it was raining and it cost under 10 euros. The hotel was in a great central location and close to many Christmas markets. If we could find anything wrong with the hotel, it was the long lines to check in, check out, and ask the concierge a question. Once we were able to get to the front of the line, check in was very smooth. They kindly gave us an early check-in and upgraded us due to Gold status. Room was very large, clean, nice bed (although it wasn’t the softest for Marriott standards), and had the great Marriott feather pillows. Executive lounge was extremely small and busy but it’s been my favorite in Germany so far. We enjoyed the ability to have a beer with lunch vs. waiting for the “happy hour”. When able to get a seat in the lounge, service was spectacular. Due to the small size of the lounge, many people had to carry their breakfast, snacks, and/or drinks to their room. Although there is the typical sign on the door saying do not do remove food or beverages from the lounge, the staff did not enforce this knowing people had nowhere to sit. Hamburg is a great city. It was very clean, had great shops, and friendly people.
