“This is not a Hotel, this is a budget Hostel for heavy sleepers only”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

The location wasn't brilliant but for the price was a tolerable walk from the U-Bahn. If heavy cases, I'd suggest a taxi to the door.

The Staff were lovely, some more so than others but overall was a pleasure walking past reception.

All rooms were facing a busy dual carriageway so had the attendant ongoing noise, the windows had very poor sound proofing so the noise was unavoidable unless you had some decent ear plugs. Everything felt as if it was done on the cheap from an Ikea remainder sale, INTERNET ACCESS IS CHARGED for which struck me a little abnormal nowadays. Free internet access in the lobby was allegedly available but over the almost week I was there it never worked once.

The rooms were once bright and inviting but mine was grubby, the cleaners only role it seemed was to come in every morning and rearrange things for no apparent reason - i actually noticed the same crisp particle was welcoming me every evening yet the cleaner had obviously been in as they managed to move my hung towels to different locations etc, no idea why.

It seems standard that the blinds don't close fully on the outside, a nice opportunity for the occupants in the facing appartment block to be voyeurs but not so nice for the hostel residents, it also lets the sun in every morning so a little tough if you were planning a lie-in.

Unless desperate, I can't see me staying in an A&O Hostel again.

I stayed there just over one night with me husband and 3 kids. The beds were poor and the bathroom smelled very bed. We did not expect much but it needs to be clean and this room was not. The only good thing was the boy who was working there, he very nice and helpful.

I stayed here together with my mother to discouver Hamburg during our Europeancity tour. We were very content about our room and the place of the Hotel. Good parking and very close the the centre of the metropoliancity. Very kindly staff. Good breakfast. Nice neighbourhood and very easy to find by car and if also by the public transport. If it would be a little cleaner would make it even better.

The safety was top!

Stayed while visiting Hamburg for the Europa final. The hotel is an hostel on lover floors and an hotel on the upper ones. Twin room on 5th floor was clean and clinical, beds comfortable and there was a TV with limited channels, only CNN in English. Small shower room/toilet attached.

Some noise from the main road nearby but after a few drnks we did not notice. Didn't have breakfast included so used some of the many good bakkeries in town.

As a base to explore the city and to go to the footie match it was OK, Would use it again if I revisited hamburg.

I was travelling with my three sons so wanted a cheap clean hotel near the centre of Hamburg. A&O is a hostel style hotel so rather basic but clean with large rooms and 3 underground stops away from the centre of Hamburg. Good breakfast for 4 euro. Rather pricey for what it is but I was there for a major football final and unknown to me it was a public holiday in Hamburg so the town was busy and prices are probably cheaper at other times. Would recommend if you're looking for cheap, clean basic accommodation, but shop around for prices.

I stayed at the hotel on the 15/01 and 16/01. I'd read the reviews and wasn't completely sure whether to book or whether to spend more to get something better. As it turns out , it was fine. The room (a twin even tho I'd booked a single) was big enough, there was hardly any noise from the main road outside, the room was clean and the towels changed daily. Contrary to some peoples comments, I found the receptionists very helpful. The only negative is that the directions on one site were wrong. As you get to the top of the stairs exiting the station, it's behind you, not in front. To sum up, I'd be happy to stay there again.

Nice little hotel. Very spartan, no fuss, no luxury. A place to sleep cheaply, nothing more. But clean and a friendly reception. Overall rating based on price, not luxury!
