“An excellent choice in Potsdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

This hotel was excellent in all respects. The reception staff were all helpful and charming, and spoke better English than I do. My room was clean and well-appointed and the free WiFi worked perfectly. The breakfast buffet was well presented with plenty of variety - hot options included crepes and pancakes on some days, and sausage, bacon and scrambled egg on others. The orange juice was the best I've ever tasted anywhere.
The hotel overlooks a small square at the west end of the pedestrianised main street next to the Brandenburg Tor, a local landmark resembling a small Arc de Triomphe, and there are plenty of cafes and other distractions in the immediate vicinity. Bikes are rentable from the hotel and are a good way of seeing the local area.
To get to the hotel by public transport, take tram no. 91 or 98 from Potsdam Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) and get off at the Luisenplatz stop.

The location is perfect. But due to a Volksfest we had problems finding the hotel by car because all the streets in town were closed. We had to park i a public garage a good walk from the hotel. Troublesom to take the luggage to the hotel. It would have been nice if the hotel had informed us about this when we ordered. Nice room, but the aircondition was too heavy so we had to turn it off. The bathroom was small but with OK amenities. A average breakfast in a small area with too many tables.

Modern and comfortable in all reapects. Excellent location. Good a/c, noiceless and effective. Excellent bathroom with both a bathtub and shower cubicle. Our room looked out at a very busy and noisy square in front of the Potstam Branderburg Gate, but we heard no noise from outside in the room --- the best sound proving we have experiened in years. The breakfast was very good. The internet connection was adequate. The only irritating feature was that after even a shortest break one had to go through the three-step login process all over again. The staff was helpful. Very good hotel.

If you are visiting Potsdam then this hotel is an excellent choice. Its located in the centre of town at the start of the pedestrian zone. Very clean and a nice suite with a good view of the Brandenburg gate. I would not hesitate to recommend or to stay at again if I happen to visit Potsdam in the future.

i would be hard pushed not to say Yes that this is the best hotel in Potsdam, bear a few small gripes. The hotel is centrally located right next to the Matador restaurant, you can order from their menu from the hotels seating area outside and charge to the room. The room we were appointed was excellent, cold air conditioning and spacious bathroom with shower cubicle. The room was very clean (four seasons standard) and plenty of wardrobe space. I was travelling with my wife who often had breakfast after 9am (no comment!) and the only complaint she had was that there were flies in the food area, it was very hot and she did not suffer any illness however, but did avoid the salmon and anything else left out. The breakfast room is very nice and service attentive.

We spent 4 nights at this hotel in June, and loved our stay. We had an upper room, overlooking the platz, the ground-level cafe and the Tor outside, with a tree outside shading the windows. We loved hearing the birds in tree outside the windows, a very subdued, tasteful clock in the platz pinging out the hours, the jazz musicians playing in the evening. The room was large, with an adequate closet and very nice, comfortable terri cloth robes, a desk, and side chairs with a small end table. Wifi was good. The bathroom was also of good size, with a separate bathtub and very comfortable, well-designed shower. All the furnishings were fresh, clean and seemed to be recently updated. Breakfasts were also very nicely done -- good breads, fresh fruit (both individual pieces of fruit and cut-up fruit salad), oatmeal, eggs, cheese and meats, and some vegetables. The buffet was refreshed on a regular basis. Staff were efficient, knowledgeable and helpful. We really appreciated being able to rent the hotel bicycles -- and in fact did this every day. The hotel is also located just doors away from the Tourist office -- very helpful.

Pros: The Brandenburger Tor was perfectly acceptable. Most of the staff were nice and spoke English. The lady who checked us in was super kind and marked a route on a map for us to see the sights. The room was clean and did have slippers and a hair dryer. The internet was free (although a little slow). The location was central and convenient with many attractions near by (the Brandenburger Tor literally right next to the hotel) and easy access to busses and trams. They let us leave our luggage before we checked in and after we checked out of the room.

The room is EXACTLY as the photos posted by ABasic in Nov 2012.

Cons: The room was tiny. The bathroom was very tight. The air conditioning was not working and they told us the hotel was full so they could not offer us another room. We were very hot and could not keep the windows open due to mosquitoes. One of the lights were also not working (but we didn't complain).

Amenities (Q-tips, klennex, etc) in the bathroom were not replenished throughout our 3 night stay. The pad of paper had only one sheet left and there were no pens.

It was odd that they only had 1 bathrobe in the room (for two people). We had to ask for a extra one, which they brought up without quibble.

The breakfast was mediocre. The food was edible, but not much to desire. The highly desired food items were often out and not refilled. The tables were not cleared and reset in a timely manner.

The hotel was a complete maze. To get to our room, you had to go through one corridor o the elevator, then take it 1 floor, then navigate through a number of corridors to a second elevator and then down a few more corridors. However, I do note they are in a central location which may be the reason for the odd design.

Overall: Perfectly acceptable. Considering the other reviews, it was less than I expected, but still a solid experience.
