“Don't bother going inside”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

We took the train from Berlin Hbhf and from there the taxi to the park. The trip went smoothly and didn't take too long. Upon arrival at the ticket counter we were told that we would have to wait over 2 hours before we could enter. The lady persuaded us to buy the full ticket that would give us access to the entire premises, so we did.

We went to the wind mill, to the gallery with paintings and visited the kitchen and wine cellar. All of which were extremely boring and we found it a waste of our time. When the time had finally come for us to enter the main building, we were very disappointed. The rooms all looked very similar and the audio guide didn't have very much interesting information, apart from telling us who lived where and how things were built.

We also strolled through the gardens. That was really nice, so if you plan to go here, don't bother buying tickets to go inside, just take a stroll through the gardens.

“If you see this, you should also see the new palace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

The Sanssoucci palace is placed on a extraordinary landscape, but the palace in itself is a bit disapointting, because you only see 10 rooms.
Go early to avoid the queues as there are only time stamped tickets (we arrived at 9.15 and where in the first lot of 30 persons, one lot every 15minutes - the palace opens at 10AM)
But dont miss the new palace, that from the outside is quite normal, but the inside is very nice and where you see the real stuff.

“Awful lighting in Bildergalerie”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

I will only comment on Bildergalerie, the only interior I visited on Sanssouci. I just cannot believe the poor lighting they have in there. The biggest reason I wanted to go there is because of Caravaggio and his The Incredulity of Saint Thomas, a true masterpiece. I even bought a photo permit - which is 3 euros and total waste of money because you cannot take a single decent photo - it is too dark and there are lots of reflections because paintings are on the wall opposite of windows and they put some standing lamps directly in front of paintings. It is not just that you cannot take a photo for which you paid, but you can't enjoy some pictures at all. For example the Caravaggio's Doubting Thomas. From every corner and distance you stand it is impossible for you to see the whole painting. I left totally disappointed.

“For someone interested in Prussia - great.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

For someone interested in 18th century Prussia and the lifestyle of European nobles that time - great. Other will find this boring. Also, the palace is quite dark and cold, but I guess this was this way 200 years ago.

“A lot of fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

Whimsical and elegant, it is really worth visiting. Get there early and buy the ticket for all the palaces.
