“A Hotel we would happily recommend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2011

This hotel is located in a good location in the city of Bremerharven and walking distances to most venues and transport. Room was very clean and well presented. Reception was welcoming and greeted us in English. The breakfast was well above expectations with both variety and selection. If we were returning to Bremerhaven we would stay there again.

A 15 minute walk from the train station this hotel is on the corner of two roads. Reception was easy and the lady was helpful with maps etc. Our room over looked a church. Our room was small but clean. Bed was comfortable but not enough pillows. The bathroom was ok plenty of towels and soap/shampoo/gel was provided. The room was stuffy no air and it was quite dark. We stayed one night. We walked into town and the harbour area which took about 25 minutes. No internal noise or external noise at this hotel.

Breakfast was included in the rate but when we got there there wasnt much left I had the last rasher of bacon! We were there a good hour before last serving. Although we sat and had a long breakfast chat nothing was topped up no more bacon no more pastries etc. The few eggs were left were cold. In fact the only thing good about breakfast was a good pot of english tea and a small selection of cheeses. Perhaps if you want breakfast it might be an idea to get up early but then you would not expect them to stop topping up over an hour before end of service!

Good hotel for the price and ok for one night if you dont mind walking.

Good clean hotel, no problems but price is the main reason to stay here.
Location is not the best for a tourist you are about 10 mins from the main train station and about 15-20 to the start of the downtown area it is a flat walk and parts of it are scenic.

The hotel has a restaurant which serves good german food, had a decent crowd of locals and hotel guests. Ate there one night when it was raining heavy and did not feel like going out into it. If you don't walk into town or the trainstation an imbiss is the only other option.

Breakfast was your standard german items with eggs, bacon and sausage.

Our trip to Europe to visit the towns and villages that our ancestors emigrated from began with a two night stay in Bremerhaven in order to experience the new award-winning Deutsches Auswanderer Haus (German Emigration Center).

We stayed at the centrally located City Hotel. There was a small parking lot behind the hotel that was filled when we arrived late but we were able to park on the side street adjacent to the hotel with no problem.
There was an elevator to our 3rd floor room. The room was large, pleasant and cozy with a nice view from the big windows. The bathroom was clean and bright. The fast wireless internet connection in the room was a plus. The comfortable bed and night-time quiet meant two peaceful nights sleep.

We had a delightful dinner at the hotel restaurant Cafe Bistro Schulz and the breakfast buffet was outstanding with both hot and cold food.

The German Emigration Center is located on the new harbor which opened in 1852. From then until 1890 over 1.2 million emigrants left for the new world from the new habor. This museum opened in 2005 and is not to be missed. It was awarded European Museum of Year for 2007. It takes visitors through a sort of reproduction of the emigration experience - waiting on the dock on a cold November morning, climbing up the gangway, settling into a third-class cabin - and introducing them to a specific immigrant. We both had ancestors that had sailed from Bremerhaven to America so this experience was very meaningful.
