We stayed two nights on the Perle and, for the most part, we loved it!
Finding it was not easy: the GPS got very confused and we found ourselves driving through the middle of stallholders setting up the Christmas market 'an der schlachte', due to open the following day. A very helpful local boat owner drove us around the block in his car, showed us the multi-storey car park and how to drive to the quay for loading and unloading, which is permitted. Once we had overcome the minor difficulties of finding our keys for the boat, unloading and parking, we settled in for what turned out to be a most enjoyable two night stay in Bremen.
The location could not have been better. Off the boat, up the quayside steps and in the middle of the Christmas market, as well as a good selection of bars and restaurants, in thirty seconds. Within five minutes walking distance of old Bremen and another two minutes to the main town square and the world famous, more established Christmas market there. At the opening ceremony of the Schlachte Christmas market, we watched the fireworks exploding right over our boat hotel - magical.
The boat itself is very comfy, warm and clean. It also feels very private, as with just two rooms and staff only there in the mornings to serve breakfast and clean the rooms, you are pretty much self-contained. We enjoyed the gentle bobbing of the boat and the spiders other reviewers mentioned must have been evicted - not one in sight!
Breakfast was fine but not amazing, and was served in the front of the boat in nice surroundings and by two friendly ladies. I do think, however, that they should have respected the no smoking rule of the boat. Whilst they did not smoke while we were in the breakfast room, they had clearly been smoking there before we entered and we saw them smoking there as they were clearing up and we were going out for the day.
I would definitely stay in a boat hotel again, in Bremen or elsewhere, though I would probably look for a different boat. The company is not very organised in helping you to find it and check yourself in, we were lucky to find help from a local. Our fellow guest (in the other cabin) told us he had had the same difficulty. And, contrary to the claim on the Perle's website, this is not the only boat hotel in the area, there are several. Don't be afraid to use the multi-storey car park, which is very convenient to walk to/from - 13 euros for two nights and days is very good value.
