On a recent visit to Berlin, we asked our hotel concierge for a hotel recommendation. From the list they provided us, we picked Restaurant El Borriquito, which was in walking distance from our hotel, not far off off Kurfurstendamm Boulevard, close to SavignyPlatz Station. Suffice to say we enjoyed our first visit so much, we went there again on our second night.
The restaurant has both indoor seating and sidewalk tables. As the weather was fair, and we prefer al fresco dining, we were able to sit outside, although it was cooler on the second evening, so we sat closer to the overhead heaters.
On being seated, we were presented with a glass of sherry each, shortly followed both a delicious cream salad, just to whet our appetites. It certainly helped to create a favourable impression.
The menu was extensive. We had been advised that lamb and fish were particular specialities, so we ordered different lamb dishes. Before these dishes arrived, we were surprised to be served a salad, something we particularly enjoy.
When the main courses arrived, we were very impressed with the quality of the food, both in terms of flavour and piquancy. I had ordered a shoulder of lamb dish, my wife had ordered lambshank. Even though I have a big appetite, I had to ask if my leftover lamb could be boxed, as I wanted to eat more, but had run out of steam. It had been delicious. This leftover formed the basis for lunch for both of us for the next two days!
On the second night we both ate fish dishes. Again, a meal to remember. As on the first night, we ordered the Rioja house wine, which comes as a half or full litre. No need to try anything else. Both the white and red were excellent.
The overall bill was very reasonable, considering the quality and quantity of food provided, plus all the extras. Total cost each night, excluding gratuity, was in the order of 45 euros.
If we ever go back to Berlin this is one restaurant that we will seek out again.
