“Got excellent pasta after 10.30pm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

I arrived late at The Ritz Carlton hotel and was pleased to find that place still serving food after 10.30pm. You get a kind of personnal credit card when you enter and you let all your orders onto that card. You pay at the cashier when you get out.

I've order an excellent pasta piquante dish with eggplants and italian sausage meat. You select your kind of pasta and they cook it in front of you. My penne were cooked at perfection, al dente and I've paid around 10.- euros with a soft drink.

“fresh and tasty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

Just what one needs after a long cold cold day out and about in Berlin. A fresh no nonsense restaurant that prepares your food right in front of you with the ingredients that you personally pick.Dishes were hearty and plentiful .

“Italian chain restaurant with excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

Vapiano is always a sure shot if you look for a high quality lunch break at a reasonable price. While they have several locations all over Germany, this review is specific to my last visit during a Berlin weekend trip. The menu is the same at all locations: they offer about 20 different pasta dishes and about the same number of pizza dishes plus a couple of salads. All dishes are cooked to order. They have a quite unique concept. You step up at one of the cooking stations and the chef prepares your pasta, pizza or salad according to your wishes (you can choose between the different sauces, the type of pasta, spicy, not so spicy, etc.). When you enter the restaurant you get a plastic card and all your orders are billed to that card. You pay when you leave the restaurant. There are different seating arrangements, but most tables are pretty large and will be shared by different parties.
Depending on the time when you arrive, it might take some time to get your food (as the queues at the cooking station might get pretty long). But, it's definitely worth the wait!
Don't forget to order some bread with your pasta or salad (it's free!) - they have an excellent chili oil and fresh basil at all tables. Try the bread with some salt, the chili oil and fresh basil - it's awesome!

“Be Prepared to Wait!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

The USP of the restaurant is that your food is made in front of you as per your choice. It is interactive, and it is customised as per your preferences. The place is extremely popular with locals and tourists alike, and be prepared to wait at least 30-40 minutes to get on on to the front of the pasta line. But the pasta they make is truly amazing. I had the scampi. The chef boiled fresh spaghetti and made the dish right asking me at every step whether I wanted less of this and more of that. It was delicious.
The pricing is also right. No wonder, the place is so popular. However, apart from the painful wait, popularity has its other downsides, such as lack of proper table set up, and hygiene.Half the things on the table such as olive oil, salt & pepper etc. may or may not be there. And it is difficult to catch the eye of the waiters. They remain so busy.
The moment a table is empty, it is taken by the next diner. Sometimes it is difficult to find a table, it is that crowded. Go there, only if you have plenty of time, and you don't mind standing in the queue.

“Schrecklich, awful, terribile”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

After waiting 40 minutes for 2 starters despite the place being virtually empty, I complained to the manager and said we were fed up waiting and were starving so we were leaving, he tried to blame ME for not saying sooner that it was taking so long! No apology was made, lest they could've done we not charge us for our drinks given that we'd wasted so long but no, very rude and no idea how to run a business. The name of the place should've been a warning; it means go slow. Went back to hotel and had room service instead.
