“Very good pizza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

This restaurant claims to have introduced wood-oven pizza to Berlin, and over the years they seem to have perfected that dish. I had an excellent pizza margherita there; the crust was the proper thinness and had the scorch marks you associate with a wood oven. The Savignyplatz location is huge with a large outdoor area where I ate. I found it a pleasant location, with attentive, upbeat service. The portion was huge and could easily have fed two. I did not try any of their pasta dishes, but other diners seemed to be enjoying them, at least from what I could see.

“Nice hosts...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

... but the food is not all that fantastic. I don't get what the big deal is about this place, other than the beer selection. The pizza was ok, but my pasta was way past al dente. I was there with a large group with a set menu, but maybe it's better when you order as an individual.

“Overrated mediocre pizza place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

This place is noted as remarkable in some guides, and is often recommended as one of the best pizza-cafés in Berlin. Situated in a narrow passage right next to the Sbahn line (Savigny platz station) the outdoor sitting is extremely loud with the regularly passing trains. The indoor is nothing outstanding next to some similar or better pizza places. As mentioned in a few reviews: "What can you say about the pizzas? - The pizzas are LARGE!" Well, unless you are happy to be guided by a Mr'Bean-type of judgement, be aware that the pizzas are indeed quite simple and not appealing (although local tastes might be different). The salads are decent and not overcharged with sauces - this is about the only positive side of the place. I had a funny "pasta experience" after ordering Spaghetti Arrabbiata: this dish is supposed to be spicy with fresh red chillies; however it had a kind of tomato sauce (albeit rich and tasty) that had NOTHING to do with the Arrabbiata recipe: not spicy whatsoever! Mineral water is overpriced, espresso is served without any water at all, the service is mediocre with distinct signs of i'm-busy-so-be-quick attitude, the outdoor sitting is crammed... Frankly, there are dozens of better choices for pizza in Charlottenburg!

“Nice dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013 via mobile

My wife, 11 year old son, 7 year old daughter and I had dinner here on a Friday night. We arrived at 7pm without reservations but were greeted happily by the maitre'd and seated within 15 minutes. We were happy to have struck up a conversation with a German couple with two children and got seated together. We all had pizza which was very good. Not the best ever, but good. The waiter suggested a bottle of red wine which was very nice.
The staff was very friendly and the decor was beautiful with intricate Italian murals on the ceilings. Overall, a great evening. Would have given 5 stars if the pizzas were a little better - a little too much ruccola(rocket).
