“traditional Biergarten with good restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Prater Garten in fact exists from two parts: the restaurant and the beer garden. In the restaurant, they offer a limited number of dishes. Don't expect fancy food, but the quality is defenitely ok. The restaurant is to be found inside the building on the left, when walking straight through the gate. The garden area next to the building belongs to the restaurant. When you enter the garden and make a right-turn, you'll enter the beer garden. At the end of the garden, beer and 'simple food' (sandwiches, sausages, etc.) and different kinds of beer and other drinks are being sold. This is self service.

“Excellent food and great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

This place seems to be as genuine as it gets in Berlin, it looks like some seedy shack from the outside, but it's very elegant on the inside. They've got a decent size menu and a couple of craft beers on tap along with the standard selection you find in most places around town, The food was top class and came in large portions, for around 10-12 euros, excellent value.

You might have to wait a while for your food if it's crowded, but it's worth the wait. And you might have to endure a rather impersonal and unenthusiastic waitress, but given the place, food and drink it's worth it - Berlin seems to contain a fair share of pretty nasty service staff compared to other cities I've been to in Europe, but this was pretty good compared to some of the people we encountered.

“Authentic German Experience, Delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

Prater was fabulous. Went with a few friends, had some authentic German beers and delicious food. Ordered the Wiener Schnitzel which was HUGE and delicious, and I enjoyed every bite. Had been dreaming of this since my first trip to Germany when I was 10, and 10 years later, it did not disappoint. Also had some potato leek soup with bratwurst, something to that extent, which was fabulous. The wait staff is also so helpful and nice, and loved the entire experience eating there. Prater is a must go!

“wunderbar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

The website recommended making reservations for dinner in the restaurant, but I didn't have a phone that worked abroad, so I figured my backup plan would be just to sit outside in the garten and order from the grill. When I arrived, I took the opportunity to practice my rusty German and ask whether I could get a restaurant table despite a lack of a reservation; they were quite obliging, and they brought me a menu in German. (I really appreciated that they didn't hurry me and allowed me to get a kick out of working through the menu with my pocket dictionary (I only realized that they have menus in English when the folks at the table next to mine got them) - for me, it made it all the more exciting to decipher what was on offer!)

...and lucky me: what was on offer, in the seasonal menu, was Pfifferlinge... chanterelle season! I got the Wiener Schnitzel with chanterelles in cream, and it was fantastic. It's a beautiful old biergarten with a fascinating history, and the beers and food were unsurprisingly excellent. Prima!

“Great German food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

We ate inside because it was still a bit chilly for the beer garden. Plus we wanted to eat. Everything was very tasty.
