“Gotta love it...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

This place is not 5 star in its original sense. But trust me...you will not leave dissapointed. The best way to explain would be much easier to understand for those that come from behind the iron-curtain. We used to have these hidden gem, home-style cooking, perfect little restaurants that worked with just so many regular and accesible ingredients and had little to show when it came to the interior but great tasting food made up for it. This is a perfect example. When you walk through the neighborhood you will see fancier and maybe nicer places but as soon as you bite into their first appetizers either one of the smoked fishes for example, you just know you have arrived and at a true restaurant really nothing else matters but the food. ( Dont get me wrong the service was also kind)
From the dumpling to the goose tighs or the chicken liver everything tastes delicious. Everything is fresh and have just a little extra something that makes it extraordinary. If you want to hold you forky with your pinky standing outand look at the decor instead of the food maybe this is not your place. If you want to take your friends family or just that special someone and have a great great tasting meal and be worry free, this is the place for you.

“Authentic and delicious food in delightful atmosphere.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

Marjellchen offered excellent traditional East Prussian dinner. We dined on tender pig knuckles with cabbage salad. Succulent duck with cooked red cabbage. Our favorite was a and mouth watering pork loin with a prune sauce and perfectly prepared large dumpling. The tripe soup was very good - tender pieces of tripe in a vinegar based soup. This is a small friendly family place with authentic local food.

Hint: Go hungry. The main courses with side dishes were so generously sized that appetizers and soups were not necessary.

Hint: When you are ready for your check, just request it from your server. It is customary for the servers to allow you to enjoy conversation after you have completed your dinner. Nobody will rush you out the door.

“The real deal. ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013 via mobile

Traditional food from Prussia and neighbouring states when they were German. Host is welcoming and delightful, tells stories of her family when lived in what was then Danzig. Traditional decor and wonderful photographs. Great food in traditional style. Definitely visit if looking for regional cuisine. Hope you're hungry, you will need plenty of room in your stomach.

“Good German food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Not cheap but food of a good standard. Many old traditional German dishes available in old fashioned surroundings. Service was slow but they were very busy which to me is a good sign. Massive portions...as the Germans like.
