“Disappointing, does not live up to its surroundings, attitude”

We went here at the end of August to celebrate my birthday during our weekend in Berlin. Tempted by ratings and reviews, I had even cancelled my previous reservation at Tim Rauhe, to enjoy the landmark surroundings of the Adlon hotel. The interior and ambiance certainly live up to the reputation: enoyed lavish dining room with views over Brandenburg gate and wood panel library (remindining me of Robuchon's original 1990s place!) over a sip of Ruinart (Blanc de blanc). When we were presented with the menus I was immediately tempted by their back pages offering the uber classic -but not easy to find - "Canard a la presse" (Tour d'Argent in Berlin !). I was excited. It all seemed too good to be true.. and it was !
Things went rapidly downhill from here. When trying to order, was politely told that these dishes were really not recommended, and only there for "tradition" and under no certain terms were "guided" to stick with one of the tasting menus. OK, fine, please strip it from your menu then... Food was OK but by no means worth two stars (e.g. the main dish of "Nebraska beef rib" was quite good, but basically the same stuff, in smaller portion, as the bbq sauce beef rib at complimentary buffet of British Airways LHR T5 first class lounge).
When the sommelier came, I asked to try a few glasses of typical German wines rather than sticking with the recommended wine pairing. The wines were OK but not spectacular, however, when the bill came I was surprised by how much they dared to charge for mediocre wines (german pinot noir charged at 36 eur/glass or double of the champagne Ruinart BdB!). Made no sense...except at closer examination to make the wine bill for the few selected glasses to match the price of the recommended wine pairing.
Service did not feel right, a bit snooty- snobbish - arrogant - patronizing.... Overall coming out of it, after dinner, felt a bit like a...tourist trap. Disappointing for a dinner that started with so much promise.

We had a wonderful dinner there. The Restaurant is outstanding - perfect service and the food was really good and high quality.

“TOP ! TOP ! TOP. :)”

The greatest dining experience of our lives! Since the atmosphere of the restaurant, the willingness of operators, despite the excellent menu with wine pairing, wine-tasting knew perfectly all the wine that we served. All the food was finely brewed with love. Indeed this restaurant aspires to 3 stars, would you really deserve. I recommend to all! An unforgettable evening

“elegant dining experience”

This restaurant has two Michelin stars and is located in a renovated traditional hotel that had its hay day in the 1920’s but later spent many years in decadence behind the Berlin Wall. Tables with a view of the Brandenburg Gate are available, although the windows are too high to actually see it while seated. Although the restaurant is elegant, formal clothing is not required, and service is not at all stiff. The food is the sort of excellent international fare that could be expected in a Michelin-starred restaurant anywhere in the world. Wine pairings are available and, in our opinion, were successful. The price is astronomical compared to a local Imbiss place, but is not out of line with the context. We were quite happy to find that at least one of the servers could speak our language (Portuguese) and really made us feel at home. Of course, everyone speaks English and German. The meal is a fine experience that has its expected associated costs.
