“Home away from home! :)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

the Clipper City Home is a boarding house which offers the features of both a hotel and a house. The reception staff are friendly. There are 4 types of accomodation, one of which is a 2-floor layout. There is a kitchenette with a burner, microwave, utensils and dishwasher.

An awesome balcony with two chairs and a table will let you enjoy tea looking at the sky outside if you are on a top floor.
Pets are allowed!

The location is the most ideal being close to the U-bahn, the Gendarmenmarkt and Friedrichstrasse. Taxis stand right outside the place.

Many restaurants can be found within walkable distance.

While you get the benefits of living in your own house, you also get the benefits of a hotel (concierge, mailroom, laundry etc)

A very good place to visit!

Quite disappointing. Previous reviews suggested hotel much better than it actually is. Rooms ok, but hotel so overheated and no air conditioning we had to forfeit our pre-paid booking and move elsewhere. Even with windows open and two fans going, we were unable to sleep, and this was at end of May and not in heat of summer.
Great position and would be fine in colder months.

It is not as trendy as internet makes believe but very comfortable and handy. In the best spot of Mitte. The rooms are spacious and have all expected utilities. EXCEPT FOR AIR CONDITIONING. There is heat but cool air only through the window. As we were there in May that was OK, but I would never stay there in summertime. There is a laundry room in the corridor, a nice breakfast for 10 Euro on the restaurant next door and a great gym for 10 Euro/day on the other next door. INTERNET is 4 Euro for 1 hour or 19 Euros for 10 hours, but NOT FAST. fast internet is available if you hire SkyTV (39 Euro/month)

It is the kind of flat that you pay more for every extra need (internet, gym, breakfast etc) but I did not feel uncomfortable with that. In my opinion a Hotel should always agregate the best services possible for a night-rate, but a residence/flat service like this tries to make this things optional only for those who may really need. Otherwise non-users would be sharing costs with users.

Room Tip: There is no AIR CONDITIONING for summer ... only heat for winter.

Centrally located, great restaurant selections, walking distance from some very nice shopping area. 5 min away from Galeries Lafayette.
The hotel/apartment is spacious with kitchenette, a little sun deck sitting area, and practical bathroom. The tv set with hi-fi radio/video set is a nice touch.
Very affordable place in comparison to some other places in other European cities.

It has been a while ago but we still remember the fine time we had in staying at the Clipper City. We had the Suite which is spacious and comfortable. It was one of our first visits to Berlin so we started in Mitte which is where the Brandenburg Tor is - 'just around the corner'. We were there during New Year's eve so the countdown area at Unter Den Linden was just around the block. The Mitte area is the luxurious part of Berlin so if you are in search of the boutique stores then this is your place. The Suite are on the price though but perhaps it's the high season.

Room Tip: We had the Suite. It has a kitchenette but we didn't use it. We don't know what the quality...

Central location (really central) and spacious rooms with small winter garden and good kitchen. Lacking those 5* hotel touches you usually expect from such hotels, like robe, slippers etc., but I would rate it as excellent 4* property and real value for money paid. Just be aware that reception works limited hours - till 7 p.m. and on holidays just till 5 p.m. Although they have automated check in system, that was quite confusing.
