“You get what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

This hostel has so much potential but is instead a very basic hostel with no personality. But hey, $49 euros/night for a private double bed with communal shower/toilet, it is as expected.

Pros: Quiet at nights. Pretty clean, very large bathrooms and rooms, beds are comfortable and pillows/blankets are soft and clean, a 5 minute walk to U station (close enough to city center).

Cons: No elevator, our room was on the 3rd floor. Reception closes daily at 10pm and you have no access to living room, computer, or fridge for the rest of the night. Has bland furniture and bad artwork throughout hostel. There is only 1 computer for this entire hostel. HORRIBLE wi-fi connection.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 1st floor.

This was a good, clean, quiet hostel with basic but nice facilities. I had a light, fresh single bedroom with a very comfortable bed but minimal other furnishings. The shared bathrooms were across the landing but I never had to wait for one to be free. They were always clean, warm with good hot showers. Underfloor heating in the bedroom and bathroom is a nice touch.
I would have preferred the bedroom to include some basics like a clock rather than fancy colour mood lighting but that's just personal preference.

The English-speaking staff were very good in being flexible and accommodating when I arrived late at night after reception closed (due to flight cancellations). In contrast, during the days of my stay, the staff were often absent from reception and seemed too busy to be very helpful which was a shame.

The hostel is in a great location in the Prenzlauer Berg district of the city. The area has a fun, relaxed feel to it with loads of cafes, restaurants, shops and attractive streets to wander around. On the nearby East-West street Raumerstrasse there was a great selection of restaurants within 2 mins including burgers, tapas, Mexican and Italian.
The hostel is a 5 min walk down Pappelalle to the Eberswalder strasse U-Bahn station from where you can be at Alexanderplatz in a further 5 mins or so.

I would definitely stay in this area again, and at the Aurora hostel if it was available.

Aurora hostel is placed in East Berlin, near Schonhauser Alee and Danziger str., metro station is about 5 min. Walk - Eberswalder strasse. City centre Alexanderplatz is 3 stations by metro. You can also get by metro to other parts of city like Friedrich str, Zoo Garten, Charlottenburg, Kurfurstendam, Neukolln...
Staff are very polite and friendly, they provided me valuable info and even reserved concert ticket by phone.
Room was very clean and sheets can be replaced by request, toilets were laso clean.
there is one wired PC for visitors use. living rom with TV was nice though I did not see any food and drinks provided to buy...

Cons: wi fi was not working so avoid room 37, rooms can be equiped with small tv or fridge,
Flours seems little claustrophobic all painted in white, maybe some colourful painting would be fun!?
No ccards excepted, only cash...
If I ever go back to Berlin, I could drop in again!

Room Tip: Check wi fi signal if you need net Ask for lower flours the's no lift!

The Hostel is about 15 to 30 minutes from tegel airport and it cost about 20 euros taxi. We arrived at night and though late at night there is no receptionist you can get a code by email and let yourself in. The receptionist was there and he was really helpful and informative...actually all the staff we met there were cool....the room was a larger one and it had the bathroom/shower inside...it was spacious - there was a washing machine and sink in the room - maybe for long term visitors - personally i d have preferred a tv...obviously in a hostel you cannot expect one....the place is currently undergoing a bit of restoration on the outside so you should expect some noise after 8.00 am....the location of the Aurora is great and its close to two underground stations and if you feel like walking its about 25 to 40 minutes to the centre depending on your pace...and along the route are several cafes and restaurants - some of which have good value meals ....close by there is also a cultural centre (that used to be a brewery) and there are films (in german) and yoga if you are into it...
