“Very Central, Clean and all the facilites you need for a short stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2010

Stayed here in October 2010 on a 4 day stay to Berlin. Booked via the OTA Berlin site and the booking process was very smooth and they replied with exact details. On arrival, they were very helpful and gave us some great advice on what areas to visit.

Apartments are 1min from Rosa-Luzemburg U-Bahn stop, with is one stop from the very central Alexandra Platz, which itself is walking distance. There is a tram stop close by but we didn't use trams during our stay.

We were in the Handel Apartment. The shower and bathroom were adequate, the room was spacious and had a well equipped kitchen area which we used to make breakfast each morning. There is a grocery stop nearby for essentials.

The nearby Prenzlauer Berg (5-10min) walk has loads of traditional bars and restaurants. The apartments are based in the east of the city which is where the majority of the tourist attractions are, but you the k’dam are of the West part (near Zoo) is more modern and Westernised with a bigger range of shops.

If returning to Berlin, I will certainly stay here again. The one draw back was that there were 2 twin beds which we pushed together to make a double, but apart from that the Apartment was great. It was perfect for 2 people for a short stay.

Our apartment was on 4th floor and don’t think there was a lift, but it didn’t matter for us, but if you struggle with stairs, you may want to ask them for an apartment on a lower floor.

Nearby we ate in a lovely restaurant Maison d’courage (just 2/3 mins up the Schönhauser Allee). On the last night we ate in Susan’s (also beside apartments) and the food was great. For both you may need a little help from phrase book, but hard to beat a bit of culture on holiday. It is Germany after all.

On our first day we used the Fat Tire Bike Tour company. We did the Berlin City tour, it was 20euro and it was well worth the money. Best way to see the city if the weather is good. Our guide Neil was excellent, friendly and knew his stuff about Berlin and he was able to answer everyone’s questions.

We just needed a couple of days in Berlin and were delighted to find these departments. The office was really helpful in finding the right one with quick replies to e-mails. Being on the fourth floor kept us fit but we knew what was coming. This was so much better than being in a hotel room and also in a much more interesting part of the city. Being able to make a cup of tea and a snack in a nice kitchen is a real treat, the apartment was nice and spacious with a big bathroom and entrance hall. The twin beds were very comfortable. The apartment overlooked the courtyard and was very quiet at night.

The communication links with tram and Metro were superb. There is a handy supermarket just up the road and the best kebabs and felafel down the road at the Luxa. Incidentally, the area felt perfectly safe. We would unreservedly recommend these apartments as a really good place to see Berlin from.

We stayed 3 nights on the apartment last June and our global experience has been good.
Best points are: location (lovely neighbourhood, full of restaurants), apartments dimensions, quite big, and Wifi
On the other hand: there is no elevator and our room was on 4th floor and also on the street there are some pubs, so it’s noisy on weekend nights (despite we slept very well)
To sum up: ideal for young/middle age groups of people, not recommended for old ones or if you go with little kids.
Price were correct, could be a bit more cheap and apartment managment were friendly (and speak English very well)

We stayed in one of the Old Town Apartments for three days at the end of a two week holiday in Germany. Initially we were a little disappointed when we walked into the apartment because it didn't look quite as pristine and glamorous as the photos on the website and the previous incumbents had obviously enjoyed a fish supper before they left. However and despite this we were soon won over by the wonderful lively area and the friendly and helpful owners. It was good to be able to make our own breakfast after 10 days of hotel living and we had a great time in Berlin cycling round the city (orange bike hire company just 6 euros per 24 hours).

Choose old town apartments for a group of 12 heading to Berlin for a stag weekend. We paid roughly 40 euros a night each which was a fantastic price when compared to staying at a hotel. Apartments were big & clean and and gave you more privacy than a hotel would.
The staff we just saw on arrival and departure because there was no other reason to see them, we had no problems at all with this choice.
Location wise, exactly what you need. Looking out the window from the top floor apartment, the view is dominated by the Berliner Dom, you are that close to the centre of the city. Great bar around the corner as well, bit student orientated but prices are great.

A group of 12 you would probably expect someone to find something to complain about but everyone was happy with this place and would use it again.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2010

My husband, 1 and my 23 year old son had a two night stay here from the 15th to 17th December. We booked directly with the OTA and paid 65 euro a night, which we found very reasonable for the 3 of us. Booking directly at the hotel you can book for a particular apartment and we chose the Allan Berg on the second floor with 2 single beds and a sofa that was already made up when we arrived. The staff in the office were very helpful - responding promptly to a couple of emails I sent before our arrival and also when we arrived. We had an early morning flight so our flat wasn't ready but we left our bags in the office.

The kitchen was handy for breakfast and fairly well equipped with gas cooker, microwave and utensils but we didn't really use it as we ate out most of the time. There's a supermarket going north up the Schonhauser Allee, the street the hotel's on, which is pretty well stocked (careful as we went to the first one Bio something which is more of an organic foodstore and the other supermarket is further on) The room was nice and big and ( more importantly for us as it was -6 outside) warm!! The furniture is basic but as expected. Our room looked over an inner courtyard and was very peaceful.

It's really near the metro station and the hotel gives excellent directions on arriving at the hotel by public transport on their website. A tip for a group is to get a Kleingruppe daily ticket for the tube at 16.10 euro for unlimited travel within Berlin for all zones ABC for up to 5 people. see http://www.s-bahn-berlin.de/englisch/tarife/index.htm

The hotel office also kindly gave us a metro map on our arrival and a leaflet on free walking tours, both of which proved very useful. We went on a tour which started at 1 for about 4 hours, in spite of the freezing weather!, that took us to the major sites of Brandenberg Gate, Holocaust memorial, Hitler's Bunker and Checkpoint Charlie with an excellent commentary by our informative guide Asoka. Although the trip is free they ask for a donation - which we gave willingly! see www.brewersberlintours.com

The Christmas markets are lovely particularly in the snow and we found the one at Charlottenburg Schloss very attractive. There were even some covered stalls made into restaurants that were very cozy. The nearby Luisen Brau brewery seemed very inviting but unfortunately was fully booked for Christmas - as were also all the other famous breweries we visited!! All in all a great trip which was lovely with the snow but perhaps would be nicer in Spring to wander down some of the wide streets rather than dashing from one place to another trying to get warm!!

Just returned from a trip to Berlin where we stayed in OTA. Loved the location and the friendly staff. Large studio apartments with some charm - perfect for us!
