I spent the greater part of a wintery day at the Berlin Zoo and then inside the Aquarium. I just loved it, even though few animals were outside in the snow. The park is so huge it was hard to find my way around. I was handed a booklet at time of admission but realized it didn't have a map. Zoo admission was not cheap, a paper map would have helped. There was one big directory/map not far from the entrance and another not far from the Aquarium. I finally took a photo of the map with my cell phone to help me find my way around. I was able to go inside some of the buildings and see the giraffes, elephants, and large cats. The buildings were exceptionally clean and the cat house was amazingly clean as these animals have a strong scent presence. These animals were just amazing. The roar of the male lion just frightening...making me want to flee downstairs to the nocturnal animal area. What a treat there, in the darkness, bats in flight....and so much more.
The Aquarium was just beautiful. I've been to some wonderful zoos and this is on the top of the list....not into the "fear, sensationalism" of those that tout killer sharks, although there were some sharks. There were insects to strange to believe.
The zoo is easy to get to via train or bus. I love to travel by public conveyances. My bus driver was very helpful even though he didn't speak English, my map was all that was needed to help us communicate.
