From the beginning, I was a bit skeptical about choosing Berlin cribs only because the lack of information and reviews online. I am a huge researcher and this was very important to me but it just looked and sounded so awesome, I just went with it and boy, was I glad I did!
A few days before I was contacted with a bunch of details about the apartment including location, transportation options, meeting arrangements, etc. and Eric was extremely informative and helpful. He also corresponded with me about a few things which I felt was very nice.
A really nice girl came to meet up in the apartment lobby to show us around and introduce us to everything. She was lovely and helpful too. The loft style apartment ("Marlene" room I think it was called) was cozy but functional and the view is incredible! Great antique furnishings including a tv, dvd player AND a dvd collection in the room which was amazing given that I was really sick from travelling and just needed to stay in and rest!
The bed was comfortable and the place was quiet. Great amenities nearby and a nice little book composed of suggestions of stuff to eat/do in the area, a great touch.
My only complaint was that it was extremely hot in there at times. We went in May when the temperatures were quite warm (25+ Celsius) and we could have at least used a fan. But at night, it was manageable. I'm not sure it would be the same in August though.
All in all, a fantastic stay, beautiful apartment and fabulous location!
Would definitely stay again next time i'm in Berlin!
Definitely check out fat tire bike tours right in Alexanderplatz square, they have foot and bike tours departing a few minutes walk away from the place and they were great!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Loft Berlin offers two unique studio apartments located in Hackerschermarkt, Mitte - right in the center of East Berlin. With panoramic views from the 21st floor you can look out over what was formerly the GDR, nearly all the way to Moscow, and get a feel of what life was like while the wall was still up. The building is occupied by an eclectic mix of hipster locals and former GDR citizens, and was built in 1967 for the highest members of the GDR government. Rosa: Rosa is our premium room named after the philosopher and humanist Rosa Luxemburg who fought for working class rights on the streets below during the first world war. With a kitchen and raised seating platform, this 25 sq. m studio is extremely comfortable for a short or long visit to explore this fascinating city which has acted as a melting pot for idealism and political extremes for over a century. Marlene: This 20 sq.m boutique studio is named after arguably the most glamorous woman to emerge from Berlin in the past century, Marlene Dietrich, a true Berliner. With laquered exposed concrete walls and chandeliers, Marlene captures the essence and extravagance of the roaring 1920s cabaret era with a twist of shabby chic. The Loft Berlin is an ideal location for couples coming to visit for a short break or even the soloist looking for an interesting and unique experience in this vibrant and edgy city. Situated directly next to Hackerscher Markt station and a 5 minute walk from Alexanderplatz station. The Loft Berlin is right in the middle of it all. You can see the TV Tower from the window as it is just across the street and you are also walking distance to all the main tourist attractions such as Museum Island, Alexanderplatz, Unter Den Linden and the lively cafe culture of Mitte.
