“Access to downtown with small town comfort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

The Winters Hotel in Berlin is a quaint hotel located just outside the city center. I stayed for two nights and wished I had booked a third. When I first arrived, it was dark outside so I had a little trouble finding it. I was able to get directions and took a 7 minute walk to the hotel with the help of some fellow travelers. Upon arriving, I was greeted with a smile as well as a prompt check-in! I found my room to be somewhat spacious with a magnificent view of the Berlin skyline. I will say that the bathroom was a little awkward due to fact that you had to close the door to get to the shower!Otherwise the room was clean and neat! After taking a quick nap, I went to the front desk and spoke to Norbert Locke about exploring Berlin. He responded with a detailed history of Berlin past and present! I woke up the next morning and was able to take the train to downtown Berlin with the help of the front desk. The walk to the train was very scenic with lots of trees. It took about 15 minutes by train to get to the main station in order to see the sights of Berlin. After returning to the hotel later in the evening, I thanked Norbert . The next morning I spoke with Nils Dobbener about staying another night. He said it would not be problem. He offered me the same rate I had when I booked the hotel online! Reluctantly, I had to catch a train back to Frankfurt. I also picked up a few reasonably priced souvenirs right in the hotel. The stay for Saturday and Sunday night was 98 euros which was about $128 at that time. I must stay that is was less expensive than staying in downtown Frankfurt as well as downtown Berlin. If you do not mind taking public transportation and doing a little walking to get to your hotel, I would strongly suggest staying at the Winters Hotel Berlin City Messe!

Room Tip: Try to book a room that faces the radio tower! Ask for Norbert to get excellent details on Berlin...

Location of the hotel initially looks a bit dubious being next to numerous motorways and three enormous industrial chimneys (which we didn't see smoking), but the double glazing is so good you don't hear a thing with the windows closed. In fact all the vehicles going past makes looking out of the window quite interesting and the area seems very safe and middle class, a fact brought home to us when we took a wrong turn at the local U Bahn station on the first night and spent half an hour walking about in the Berlin back streets trying to find the hotel ! Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful and spoke English well. Room was very nice, although one does miss the English kettle and harder pillows ! Breakfast was excellent and overall I would say the hotel was very good value for money. U Bahn station was about ten mins walk away, but you do need some coins (not notes) to buy tickets. Train takes about fifteen mins to get to Berlin Centre.

Room Tip: Some rooms have shared facilities - I don't know what they are like.

This hotel is your standard hotel nothing too special. However, we knew we didn't pay for a luxury hotel, so this hotel offered everything we needed. Upon arrival, the hotel staff was very friendly, great first impression. The room was clean and tidy. The location isn't the closest to city but the U+S bahn was 600m away, and takes about 30min to get to Alexanderplatz. It takes around the same time to get to Tegel Airport. The breakfast was reasonable, nothing to complain about. We really liked the luggage storage service they provided as we were able to store our bags (€1,50 per bag) after we've checked out. My only negative is that the walls are a bit thin. Our room was close to the stairway, and we could hear (few rude) people shouting down the stairs at night loud and clear. I would recommend this hotel if you are just after a clean and tidy place to stay during your Berlin visit.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the stairs/elevator.

No specially "good / bad" things. Location could be better for tourist.
Nice staff, slow elevator, good breakfast. No grocery at close range.

Room Tip: End of corridor, room 706.

We stayed here for 8 days and simply used it as a base to explore Berlin from. Though not the most cosy of hotels, it provided everything we needed. The room was very clean, and much bigger than anything you'd get in the UK for the same price! We had an en suite bathroom too, which not all the rooms have. It too was exceptionally clean.
Breakfast was certainly a life saver for us, as we'd paid in advance (good thinking by my girlfriend), and really helped us prepare for our long days out. The food itself was a selection of cold meat, cereals, bread, yoghurt (and chocolate pudding!) as well as hot bacon, eggs etc.

We'd read other reviews on here claiming that this hotel was "such a long walk from any U bahn stations" - it really isn't. There are two, Hohezollerndam and Heidelburger Platz, both of which are a ten minute (if that) walk away.

The bar is expensive, but their pizzas are pretty good if you need a light evening meal.

The only issues we really had were that the curtains in our room were very thin, and our room faced a noisy road, both of which resulted in a few dodgy nights sleep.

Overall, this hotel suited our needs perfectly for a no frills place to stay.

Room Tip: No double beds here I'm afraid! The double rooms feature two single beds pushed together.

Stayed there for 2 nights on the 4th and 5th July and agree with the previous reviewers - its a basic no frills hotel that is fine for staying for a short break. Reception staff are very helpful and breakfast is buffet style with cereals, breads, ham/bacon/egg. It is @750m from the S bahn and U bahn station walking underneath the main road. Couple of restaurantes if you walk up towards Berlinstrasse including a decent Italian and some bars. Public transport is brilliant and we bought a 48 hour ticket from the airport for 19 Euros for unlimited travel on S bahn/U bahn and bus. Connections are frequent and only waited a couple of minutes. You can go all over Berlin in a matter of minutes. Great trip and really enjoyed Berlin.
