“Tourist trap”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2014

There are a lot of good museums in Berlin that are either free to visit or charge a small amount.
This is not one of them.
First of all, there is an enormous amount of text plastered over the walls and it's just impossible to read it all, particularly when it's busy.
Then, there seems to be very little organization / structure within the museum.
It was not a very inspiring experience.
Also, there is a charge for the toilets within the museum after just having paid 12,50 entrance fee!
I would recommend to just view Checkpoint Charlie and The Berlin Wall Memorial at the Bernauer Straße.

“Outdated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2014 via mobile

When I first visited the museum, before the fall of the wall it was funnily amaturistic but because it was so actual and near it was fascinating. In the evening we watched the DDR news and the wall was all around us. Now that it's all gone, the atmosphere has changed and now the museum looks outdated. A lot of things were there 25 years ago and have poorly aged. There's no clear sequence or order or theme. It's just a bunch of memorabilia crammed together in a place that's not suited to be a museum. Having said all that, it still houses an important collection of events from the wall era. Take your time, leave your little children at home and hope they will restore this collection and give it a place worth its importance in history.

“A lot to take in”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2014

There is so much in the museum, and it is a lot to take in. If you want to visit the museum, I recommend an entire day there to do it properly as a few hours, like I had, is not enough. If you are interested in Germany history, I definitely recommend it-but it is not a museum for the weak-willed.

“Definitely a Must Do”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2014

Having lived through this and seen the wall come down and Eastern Europeans gain more freedom. I would definitely advise visiting this museum. I don't think any of us in Western Europe fully understood the pain, suffering and frustration of these people.

“Read a book instead, its the same thing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

Loads of photos, even more writing. Too much in fact. text text text everywhere. I love to learn and I love museums, but if they made it all more concise it could be a great place. It also isn't worth the entry fee. If its raining and you have nothing else to do, go in, but otherwise I wouldn't bother. Just buy a book about the history of Berlin and the wall.
