“Good as always”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in May 2013. To summarize:

- excellent location close to Checkpoint Charlie; Brandenburger Tor & Reichstag 20 min by foot; Potsdamer Platz 10 min; Gendarmenmarkt 5-10 min.

- quietly situated, large, comfortable and modern rooms, either towards the not very busy street or towards different inner courtyards

- clean room, clean bathroom

- very friendly staff

- we unfortunately had to shorten our stay for one night right upon arrival –no problem as we chose the flexi rate

- car parking (for 2 Euro/hour from Mon-Sat 9am-10pm, rest of time for free) in front of the hotel or in the hotel’s garage for a daily rate

We can recommend staying here and would definitely return for our next stay.

Room Tip: There are rooms to the street and to different inner courtyards -all are quietly situated as the str...

Just returned from a long weekend staying at the Mercure Checkpoint Charlie Hotel in Berlin.
The location has to be one of the best in Berlin as it is directly around the corner from Checkpoint Charlie.
We traveled as a group of 12 adults and had a fantastic experience from start to finish.
I booked 6 privilege rooms in advance and everyone was happy with the size, quality and cleanliness of rooms and the helpfulness of the staff was never too much trouble.
A special mention must go to the reception staff where nothing was too much trouble, whether you wanted additional pillows or taxi reservations.
Olivia & co in the bar kept us entertained as well as keeping our glasses topped up each night!

Room Tip: Overlooking the courtyard is a bonus.

Stayed with my wife for the weekend to visit Berlin, the location of the hotel is what makes it so attractive - it's walking distance from all the important tourist attractions.

We didn't try the breakfast (there's a coffee shop nearby that makes an excellent cappuccino and chocolate filled croissant), bedroom and bathroom were spacious and clean, our room did have a fridge/mini bar. Our windows opened to the interior patio so there was no noise from the street, although the area is very tranquil and there was never any traffic to bother those with a street view.

My only complaint would be with the Internet, the hotel only offers free Internet in the lobby, you have to pay for room wifi usage which is very disappointing, I've grown accustomed to free hotel wifi.

That said, I would definitely recommend this hotel for families and couples.

We stayed at this Excellent Hotel for 3 Nights (May 11 to 13). All staff were very polite, helpful and
friendly. The Room was spotless and well laid out with coffee m/c. and large comfy bed.Breakfast was good with a varied choice and lots of it. Our room overlooked an inner courtyard and was very quiet. Location was great for walking to many sights and attractions and there is an underground station just round the corner if you want to go further afield. We loved our stay at The Checkpoint Charlie and will definitely be going back!
Recommended.

Booked this hotel for its location / availabilities

What's Good:
- Location: not far from Stadmitte U2 station (subway)
- Staff: nice, welcoming
- Room: spacy, with balcony
- Breakfast: variety and freshness
- Sauna (didn't try it)

What's BAD:
You should prepare yourself for the following bad points:
- No room-service, no mini-bar (but a coffee machine!), this means no still water in the room, no snacks: nothing. So if you skipped diner, or didn't bring anything with you to the room, get ready to starve till the morning :)
- No iron in the room: you have to go to the 6th floor to a special "iron room"! which I found not adequate, not comfortable to share ironing with complete strangers! Feeling like a dorm or something similar!
- Internet: despite the fact that you have to change the Wifi password daily, it is VERY SLOW

I think knowing all these points and being aware of them, you could have a better stay than mine :)

PS. It's a 4 stars hotel

My husband, myself and our 13year old daughter stayed at this hotel in April 2013. It was just perfectly located off Friedrichstrasse and a short walk to many of the historical sights. The reception staff were friendly, efficient and their restaurant referrals were spot on. Our room was large and spacious with a coffee machine and good selection of coffees. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic and we were able to catch up on email at the same time. We will stay here again in a flash!

Extremely nice Hotel, the room was nicely appointed. Location about 5 minutes from the UBahn. The internet service was pathetic. First of all you had to pay for it by the day (about $15) then wireless connectivity was weak and you could only log in with one device at a time.

I ended up with an extra day in Berlin at the end of my vacation and the price for a last minute booking at this hotel was about half what it was at other Mercure properties.
