“Old with character”

This hotel is a gem from the 1930's. The property is well located and the rooms large.
Staff are very helpful. It needs some $$'s spent and definitly new mattresses.
However my wife and I would certainly stay here again.
Apparently the Germans like hard beds !
O yes breakfast is excellent and included in rate.

The Askanischer Hof is located in an area that could be compared with New York's upper east side: it is flanked by luxury stores in a very upscale neighborhood, which means that the environment is a bit staid (especially compared with the edgy energy of neighborhoods further east). Yet the hotel is not at all stuffy or corporate: it has the atmosphere of a homey B&B. We found the staff extremely helpful and solicitous, very warm and welcoming. We stayed twice and got to try two different rooms, both of which were pretty and comfortable. The price seems very reasonable for the high quality of the lodgings and the great breakfast. The location has advantages and disadvantages: it is somewhat far from some of the major sites, like museum island, though for enthusiastic walkers, it is walkable. Public transport is a few blocks away but there is a taxi stand right on the corner if you are willing to pay for cabs. If you are primarily interested in seeing sites in the easter part of Berlin, you might not want to stay this far west, but the quiet and civility of the neighborhood has much to recommend it.

Room Tip: Even a room right on the street proved to be surprisingly quiet but another toward the back of the h...

i stayed in this hotel with my wife. The breakfast and the employer at reception desk was great. Also the location is good. This is the only tree things i liked about it.
The bed was terrible, made of wood, if we move at the bad, the "cracking" and the noise it makes wake up allways my wife and vice versa. It wasn't confort either, and i'm a litte big and the bed wouldn't fit, and in the feet was a wood "wall" so it was very uncomfortable.
Also the housekeeping almost won't exist. That was the most bad! They didn't clean the room well, In the room don't have soap and shampoo (i never saw this). In the last day they even won't change the toilet paper!
I will not stay there again!

Very nice hotel, near everything: u bahn s banh and bus. Excellent location for restaurants. Room was large, personnal very courteous and helpful, we stayed 6days and would definitely go back. The only criticism, wi fi near lobby and restaurant so if your room is far from lobby, no in room wifi.

Room Tip: If you want in room wifi ask for a room near breakfast area

My husband and I stayed here for four nights while exploring Berlin. This hotel is so charming, it's hard to know where to begin. The interior evoked Berlin in the 1920's. Rooms were surprisingly large, with high ceilings and lovely antiques. Beds were comfortable and the plumbing is totally modern. The staff was excellent . The front reception staff was always able to communicate in English and was extremely helpful with directions and transportation. Breakfast was delicious and ample. The coffee was particularly good. Our room was at the front of the hotel, facing the Ku'damm, but was always quiet at night. When we return to Berlin, we will definitely return to the Ashkanischer Hof.

Hotel in old building. Old climate, traditional german breakfast. Big rooms. Strictly in center of Berlin. Should be a little cheaper, but generally I recommend.

Stayed for 2 nights and our room overlooked a private interior courtyard which meant no being woke up by city noise. Very spacious rooms with comfortable chair and table and chair, some rooms have wifi reception, ours did on occasion but you can easily go to the dining/sitting room area and work there in comfort. Parking right outside in middle section of street, you just get a voucher from the Hotel staff and leave it on the dashboard, no charge. Very good location on the west side of Berlin, great for shopping and very easy to catch metro to various locations. Nice breakfast included in room charge. Check out the photos of the famous guest list over the years, plenty of nice restaurants within walking distance.
