“Fabulous hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

We stayed here for 5 nights for a week of sightseeing and Christmas markets. Having read some of the review I was not sure what to expect- but this hotel is truly superb. From the minute we walked in we were waited on hand and foot, and treated amazingly. The staff were such an accolade to the hotel, especially the young man that served us breakfast- didn't catch his name- but he was so polite and friendly. The hotel was beautiful, and the room was HUGE (we had the city view normal room)- and the beds were SO comfy. Breakfast was fantastic, such a selection, and again well attended to. Cannot comment on the other restaurants for lunch/dinner as we ate out. The hotel is in perfect location for walking to Potsdammer Platz, and very near the U-Bahn to reach other areas.

I would highly recommend this hotel, and wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing week in Berlin!

Room Tip: We stayed on the 6th floor and it was perfect- although we had a city view room, I wouldn't nece...

Stayed here for a weekend of sightseeing and Christmas markets and couldn't fault the hotel. The staff were very friendly, the hotel was very clean and well kept. The rooms were very modern and spacious, a very relaxing space after a busy day. There was a good choice for breakfast and very attentive staff. Had a drink in the bar one evening and again very nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The pool was lovely, very clean and relaxing. Overall, would highly recommend and would definitely stay again if we returned to Berlin. The hotel was in good walking distance of a number of shopping areas and Christmas markets. We did the sightseeing bus one day, which was an excellent way to see all the major sights and could jump off and on as you pleased, good value.

First of all it doesn't rank as 5 star but Germany does have a different method of ranking hotels.
First lets say the good things:
- valet parking when you get in
- good English at reception
- most of the staff is nice and eager to help
- room was great (big comfy bed, mini bar, quiet most of the times)
- does have sauna and massage center, near the pool
- restaurant and bar
- somewhat close to metro

Now here are some of the not so good aspects:
- wifi is not free. Need to pay either 5 ? per hour, or 10 ? for a day or 50 ? for a week.
- room is not so warm in the morning though heater is to the max limit.
- just 3 or 4 channels in English on TV. All are news channels.
- the water in pool could have been warmer and personel over there could have been more enjoyable.
- hotel is about 10 mins from the metro station

We stayed only one day and we were impressed by the friendliness and great service at this hotel! We will come again. The location is pretty good; only 20min by taxi from the Tegel airport. The rooms are nicely designed.

I spent 7 Days of hard work in Berlin, but thanks to the Esplanade I wasn't exhausted when I left. I enjoyed everything the hotel has to offer: the room, the pool, the wellness, the ellipse, the eck restaurant, the breakfast and the real great hospitality of the friendly staff.

Room Tip: The view from the rooms on the 7th floor is great.

We booked a penthouse suite for four girlfriends to experience the Christmas markets and see the sights of Berlin. The hotel is well located.very clean, fantastic lobby area, well appointed rooms, great cocktail bar and excellent choice and quality of food in the restaurant - particularly the breakfast buffet which was excellent, the pool and spa and gym were all very nice too. However, what set this hotel apart from every other luxury hotel that we have stayed in all over the world was the appalling and downright discourteous customer service. With the exception of Johannes on the concierge desk, everything seemed to be too much trouble for the staff who were almost all not only unhelpful and downright rude. We are all very well travelled ladies in our 40's and we all agreed that we had never experienced such unfriendly and unwelcoming service anywhere else in the world. If you want great food in a well appointed, well located hotel, go to the Esplanade, but if you're expecting to be made to feel welcome, go somewhere else!

Stopped in the Esplande for 8 nights while touring around Berlin. We pre-booked our stay through an agent and had booked a river view room. Check in was easy with friendly excellent speaking English staff, when we entered our room we discovered that it was not a river view that we had booked. On explaining this at reception the staff were very apologetic and we were given a river view room on the 6th floor. The room was spotless with a very large comfy bed.
Berlin is a good walking city and were the hotel is situated there is plenty of walking but was not an issue for us. Berlin transport is cheap and reliable. The hotel staff are very helpful in explaining train/bus routes.
We did not eat in the hotel so cannot comment on the food.
Harry's bar in the hotel is very good, comfy place to sit and relax at night after a full day walking, excellent service, good drinks selection and live music, all reasonably priced for a hotel. The only comment on Harry's bar is that it does get busy and is not that big, on visiting one night the bar was quite but most of the tables and bar stools had been reserved so we had nowhere to sit so sat at the lobby bar. We could see into Harry's bar and the bar stools which we had seen reserved at 19:00hrs were not used until 22:30hrs. Surely hotel patrons should have priority, this is my only niggle with Harry's bar, overall excellent service.
The other bar in the hotel is Esk bar and restaurant which we visited on the Wednesday night to watch the champions league football, the bar was very quite but the service was poor. Had couple of drinks but when asking for the bill the waitress disappeared and took an age to bring the bill. Did not visit here again, stuck to Harry's bar.
Would highly recommend this hotel if visiting Berlin.
