“A pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

Me and many of my colleagues stayed at this hotel in April 2012. I think it was a very nice hotel. My room was newly renovated in a modern design. There were a chair, a desk and a telly. There were also a welcoming chocolate in the room. In the bathroom there were small bottles of showergel and shampoo.
The wifi worked fine.
When we were there, there were some constructional work going on, but this didn't affect us.
The breakfast was nice with a good selection. We had dinner there one night - that was just average.
There are nice restaurants close to the hotel and the shoppingcentre KaDeWe is just around the corner.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

I stayed here for four nights in mid-July and my review is deeply affected by the problematic construction and wifi. When I first checked in, the hotel placed me in one of the old, un-renovated rooms. It had no air conditioning, worn-out furniture, and a very unfriendly shower design. Unhappy with this situation, I complained to the front desk and was able to be moved to a new room the next day. While the hotel had great service upon my complaint -- they would not have offered to change my room if I hadn't ask. In other words, the hotel was fine with leaving one of their guests in the old, hot, and stuffy room, when they had a brand new, renovated room available. So beware -- confirm that you get a renovated room. If you get an old room, this is almost a 2 star rating.

**This part describes the new, renovated rooms. The new rooms are great! Super shiny, clean, well air conditioned, and looks almost true to the pictures they posted. The only problem I had was that there was no shower curtain in the shower and the water sprayed all over the towel racks. The other problem I had was with their WIFI. On the second day of living there, the WIFI broke down and there was no way to use the internet. The front desk told me I could go use an internet cafe somewhere down the street..... even though I had paid for the comfort of using WIFI in my own room. They were also unwilling to reimburse internet cafe charges, had I gone and used it. They were however, nice enough to let me use the computers at the front desk... but still, that was uncomfortable and I was unable to use my cellphone with WIFI and call via Skype, etc... The WIFI continued to be broken down for the next 3 days of my visit... I can't believe a 4 star hotel would let their premises go without internet for this long without making any compensations.

Otherwise, the bell boy who helped move luggage was super nice and friendly. Location was very convenient (near big department stores, close to two bahn stations, etc...). Would definitely recommend this place in terms of value.

Overall, the rooms are great, it's just that the service is sometimes questionable and I don't feel like the hotel made a big effort to make my stay comfortable. If they truly want to become a 4-star hotel, some more work needs to be done.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a renovated room -- otherwise it is completely unacceptable.

Large rooms, with big LCD TV's. Very clean and had a nice modern feel to it.
The bar food at the hotel was ok for what it was. Was a very short walk to sight seeing buses if you're a tourist.

Internet/Wi-Fi was down when I was there, rather annoying and is a must have in any hotel.

We made the mistake to book a hotel through an online travel site that does not reveal the name of the hotel until after the purchase is complete. So we didn't have a chance to be warned upfront. As other reviewers pointed out parts of this hotel are still under construction. One can imagine, though, that visitors in the already renovated rooms, away from the construction, could get a different impression of the hotel than we got. The location is excellent. The KaDeWe is nearby, and some very good restaurants are only a short walk away.

Our room was in a part of the hotel that is still under construction. At check-in we were directed through a corridor of rooms with open doors and full of rubble and debris to the elevator. The elevator door on our floor was right next to another construction site that was only superficially sealed. The slightly sweet taste of fine dust coming from there stayed with us through the rest of the day. The hotel room itself was in need of renovation, especially the bathroom. The sink was cracked, and water stains were at the ceiling.

Not much changed on the following days: Dust and construction noise followed us.
We also lost complete trust in the cleanliness of the cleaning staff once we realized that used cups were simply returned to their place without any cleaning or even rinsing.

With the exception at check-in the staff at the counter was generally friendly.

Just getting around to saying this is a great location for Christmas marts. Several were very close buy. Also close access to the train and subway stations. The rooms were modern. We enjoyed the bar each night for some German hospitality and service was attentive and friendly. A nice alternative to all the US chain hotels.

Just came back from a nice family holiday. We had two rooms with extra beds. Rooms were huge, bathroom was also very big. It was clean everywhere. And no noise during the nights. Breakfast was good. Staff was very helpful and polite. Free WLAN was available. Also it was possible to print e-tickets for the flight. Neighborhood was very nice and peaceful. Tube was close. And very good shopping street was also very near. We took a taxi back to the Tegel airport. It was only 20 euros (6 persons and our luggage)!

Never found smaller rooms for single travellers. No recommendation for business trips. Bathroom is to small, useing the toilet was a problem... Breakfast was okay, also the drinks at the bar. Location is quite good, near the "Kaufhaus des Westens" and the tube A2 (good for drives to the "Messe Berlin").
