“Perfect stay for business”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

I stayed at the Intercontinental while on business in Berlin during a trade show. The rooms are modern and upscale. The amenities on the premier floor were superb, from the breakfast, to the lounge area and the access to the business centre. The hotel restaurant was also excellent. All the staff members I interacted with we're friendly and helpful.

The Berlin Intercontinental Hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood and off the beaten tourist track which bring us to its first drawback: its at least 300 meters from the nearest subway stop. But taxis abound so its easy to go around Berlin.
The hotel , staff , rooms and amenities are 8/10. The room is comfortable, linen and towels more than adequate and luxurious for a business hotel. Wifi is free all around the hotel. BUT, the only drawback is its minuscule TV a 14 inch crammed to fit a console that revolves so one could view the TV while in the bathtub and aslant while on the bed. Regardless, one does not stay in the tub for more than an hour and management should have put a 42 inch TV in front of the bed and shouldn't have even considered pitting the revolving console. When it is half opened, and the TV is positioned so,that you could view it for the bed, the console gets in the way if be has to go to,the bathroom. Apparently the room designer thought it was a great idea to have the console revolve but, in fact, it deprives the guest of a bigger TV. They should change this.
Other wise, I'd go back to the hotel Intercontinental, Berlin.

Room Tip: Get a room close to the elevator

Dear jzkpmd

thank you for reviewing the InterContinental Berlin.

While the InterContinental Berlin is a five to ten minute walk from the next subway station, there is a bus leaving in front of the hotel every ten minutes which takes you to many of Berlin's tourist attractions. At the same time, the side street in which we are located provides you with the benefit of a much quieter stay.

The InterContinental Berlin has a wide range of rooms which provide different benefits. For example the Superior Rooms in our East Wing impress with their innovative, movable elements. On the other hand, our Deluxe Rooms feature modern design and a different color setting. Please ask our reservation team what the specific features of the room are so that we can meet your needs.

I am pleased that our teams still provided you with a good hotel experience and we are looking forward to your return.

With best regards

Nice location on a relatively quiet street between the centre of the former West Berlin (near the zoo) and the Tiergarten. Very friendly and efficient staff. Lovely spa.

There is not much right outside the hotel (which is good for sleeping because the area is not noisy) but it's a short walk or ride to just about anywhere you might want to do or see.

Very conveniently located directly behind the zoo and only a few minutes walk to the Tiergarten in one direction and the centre of the city in the other.

Check in was quick and very efficient, complete details of the hotel facilities were clearly explained, we were given an upgrade as a platinum member. The room was very nice, well furnished with comfortable bed and pillows and a large dressing area and bathroom. Little or no noise or disturbance from the corridor at night. The hotel staff were all very helpful whenever we requested assistance, housekeeping was efficient and the room well maintained.

The Marlene Bar and Lounge adjacent to the lobby is a very convenient place for drinks with a reasonable bar menu. The restaurant is somewhat larger and less intimate than we would prefer so we chose to eat in the lounge which we found to be very satisfactory. The Marlene Bar and Lounge staff without exception were very welcoming and attentive.

A truly comfortable hotel which we would be more than happy to stay in again

Dear Peter

thank you for your delightful words.

Tiergarten, Berlin's largest park, is a great retreat from the busy Berlin city life especially during summer. From the hotel, you can reach it within 5 minutes by foot. On the other hand, the nearby Kurfürstendamm offers premium shopping opportunities.

It is great to hear that you had a restful stay with us and that our teams provided you with efficient, attentive yet unobtrusive service.

For your next stay and an even more exclusive experience I recommend our Club InterContinental with its Club Lounge. It adds additional value to your stay at our hotel. We are looking forward to your return.

the rooms at this hotel are gorgeous especially the junior suites. Loved it all especially the Pool..OMG..check it out.

However, a problem that is becoming a serious issue especially in Germany with the Starwood Properities (westin, sheraton, etc) is that they never upgrade for those that have status even though there are rooms. Now, at this property which is part of the IHG/Priority Program..we rented the Junior suite but it is quite interesting how they never seem to have upgrades available as well. I am glad to hear that Westin is being looked at as a possible lawsuit in Germany for not upgrading as part of the Elite Program and this can be verified by the large number of complaints. However, I am the highest Elite status and yet, never any upgrades in Germany?????? I think there seems to be an issue in Germany with the SPG and possibly other Programs. But, the rooms and overall service...very nice

Dear worldtrav1990

thank you for your compliments on our rooms and our SPA InterContinental as well as pointing us towards a shortcoming during your stay - especially as you as a Priority Club Rewards member are one of our most valued customers.

Please excuse any inconvenience caused by us not recognizing you as a Priority Club Member. Therefore, I will get in touch with you personally in order to look into the details of your stay.

I hope that you will return to the InterContinental Berlin in the future to stay in one of our junior suites with views across the city.

I had a pleasant stay.

LOCATION:
Not very good. It is next to Tiergarten park, but it is a hike to the metro and a very long walk to the city center. (I'm American, so take "long walk" with a grain of salt)

SERVICE:
Excellent service, but a few minor hiccups. I pulled up to the hotel and asked for valet parking, and the bellman instructed me to park in the garage. I discovered later other guests had no problem valeting their cars. I forgot my phone charge (typical), and the concierge happened to have one, but wouldn't let me take it to my room because it was the hotel's only charger for guests. At the Vienna IC, they just let me borrow one. Not a big deal really, but I kind of expected an IC concierge to be able to be a little more flexible.

FOOD:
If you order room service, don't get the Consomme. It's just a bowl of broth for 9 euros.
The breakfast was extremely disappointing. Among all the ICs I've stayed at, the selection of hot food and international food was the poorest. It was definitely not worth 30 euros. Also, something I noticed about all ICs is that no matter how you order your eggs, you will get sunny side up.

ROOM
This intercontinental is different in other ICs in Europe, as the rooms are modern and chic. My only problem was that the AC was extremely loud. But other than that, the rooms were comfortable and well-stocked with amenities.

Room Tip: View of tiergarten from a high floor is nice.

Dear BostonianT

Thank you for reviewing your InterContinental Berlin stay. Also, I would like to thank you for thoroughly describing some deficits you discovered during your trip as your remarks help us to become better and create a memorable guest experience.

I believe that your experience with the valet parking may have been a misunderstanding as this service is available to all our guests free of charge. Nonetheless, we once again reviewed our procedure in order to prevent any future confusion.

I am sorry that your dining experiences during your stay were not to your full satisfaction. Please rest assured that we are always striving to create an exceptional experience at the L.A. Cafe.

Besides these impressions, your review indicates that you had a good stay with us in Berlin. Therefore I hope that we will be one of the InterContinental Hotels you return to in the future and until then I wish you great travel experiences.

Great hotel in a perfect location. The Berlijn marathon was in full swing but did not affect our weekend away, would highly recommend this hotel. It is centrally located so for shopping or doing the tourist route it was just perfect. My two year old Son was with us and we made a lot of trips to the hotel pool which he just loved. Will return some time soon.

Dear tRoode

it is great to hear that you and your son had a good time in Berlin also due to staying at the InterContinental Berlin.

We have recently been approved as family friendly hotel by visitBerlin and provide some benefits for our smaller guests such as children bath robes.

I wish for you to have similar hotel experiences in the future and our teams and I are looking forward to your return.
