“Great Budget Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

This hotel exceeded my expectations: the location was super convenient to a U-Bahn stop (the U-Ernst-Reuter-Platz stop) and also close (10 minute walk) to a much bigger station, the Zoologischer Garten station, which has a ton of trains and busses. Our room was spacious and clean and though it was clear that the structure and furnishings weren't new or particularly luxurious, they were not shabby and they definitely worked. The price was excellent (we were there in late March) and if you're not interested in paying for the hotel breakfast there are at least 5! cafes on the same block that serve coffee and pastries or more. For the price point this hotel is excellent and I would highly recommend it to anyone I know who was looking for a budget hotel in Berlin!

After finding a great deal online for a 3 night stay here, we were amazed by how good value it was. The room was an excellent size, with very high walls but didn't get cold despite it being snowing outside. The room was also very clean with great facilities. Only down point was the noise in the morning, the floorboards above our room (we were on the 1st floor) were quite loud if there were people moving around upstairs. Would stay here again though!

Room Tip: Take a room on the highest floor that you can as the floorboards are loud.

Wow, what a brilliant hotel, we stayed here for 2 nights in feb half term. The hotel is very close to all attractions as the tube station is literally down the road, we visited mitte which was about 1/2 hour at the most on the tube with a day ticket only costing 6.50 euros, we also walked to the victory column which is a must. As for food there are lots of different restaurants and cafes a stones throw away from the hotel, and with the airport only 1/2 hour away you can't go wrong with the gates novum.

Not to far from train station. The price was alright since it was 4 of us. It has one bed and a couch made into a bed which was really uncomfortable. The pillows were horrible, but everything else was alright. Would I stay again...maybe.

Hotel Gates is a great value. It is very close to a U2 stop, and one stop away from the Zoologischer Gartens stop which connects almost everwhere. The beds are comfortable, the rooms very clean. You can tell the building is historic and it has retained much of its former beauty.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are large and there is plenty of storage space in the rooms.

The only 2 reasons this hotel doesn't get 5 stars from me are 1) breakfast is expensive and 2) the housekeepers start rolling their carts down the halls at 8am and it can be loud due to the old nature of the hotel.

Simply can't understand this hotel's good reviews. My daughter and I booked two adjacent rooms but on arrival were on different floors; the personal items safe wasn't working; the hotel customer PC wasn't working; and I was woken at 4am by a room party down the creaky corridor! I demanded another room and got one with three curtains for four windows. Yes, you guessed it, the curtains weren't working! The staff were, to put it politely very unhelpful and unwelcoming. A disaster. Never, ever again!

Besides Berlin is one of my favorite city in the world, this hotel is really good! The neighbourhood is well located, not too close to centrun, that usually is quite noisily place, but with fast access to the city highlight and is easy to find some place to park your car.

The breakfast is really good and the room and the bathroom are clean, good size and quiet. One weird point is the ceiling height is too high and it makes the room more colder than usual.

Overall, Gates Novum worth the money and for sure i recommend this hotel.
