“A great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

I stayed here during a business trip to ICEF Berlin. The hotel surpassed my expectations compared to others I have stayed in Berlin in the past.

The rooms are spacious with large beds. The wifi was working perfectly in the hotel and I was able to actually VPN back to the office in London. There are a handy safe in the room, a large bathroom with everything you need.

One thing to be aware of for smokers is that the hotel does not sell cigarettes and the closest place is either the bar at the Intercontinental Hotel down the road or the pizza restaurant behind the hotel.

The breakfast was sumptious and changed every day (the juice glasses could be bigger). Also the bar closes quite early but we were able to go elsewhere for drinks so that was not a problem for us.

Very secure with the lifts requiring key cards to operate.

But the best thing about the hotel was the attentiveness of the reception team. They were able to promptly and professionally answer any question and prove to be invaluable to the hotel. I have joined their loyalty program and cannot wait to go back again next year!

Room Tip: Some rooms on the ground floor have a patio area. Alternatively get a high floor room (418, 419 etc...

The hotel was clean, had great safety features such as only card holders able to use the lifts and the rooms were modern and spacious. There was a quirky feature in the room of a window between the bedroom and bathroom that we found amusing (there is an electric blind to close it though) The breakfast was fresh and the staff were attentive. Its close enough to walk to the Tiergarten underground station and close to the Zoo and Aquarium if you have children. Overall I would highly recommend the hotel.

Very kind and helpful staff, very well trained I send my staff there for training! Rooms are well kept and modern. Hard to make a bad comment - rooms maybe a bit small? But if you mind book two still a good deal! Rent a bike for few days well worth it.

This was a second visit to Pestana Berlin and I am starting to think it might become my favourite hotel anywhere. It has great style, is a nice sort of size (not so big as to be impersonal), is really comfortable, has good staff and (for me) a marvellous location. What's not to like? (Well, for some reason they've got rid of the quirky sea/fish images that used to move across the foyer floor. Shame.) You can look out over the huge Tiergarten park next door towards the 'new' city centre, stroll through the park, row a boat in the park, eat at the park café, catch a bus (200) practically outside the hotel ...... There really aren't any negatives.

Room Tip: Get up as high as you can (fourth or fifth floor) and try for a view overlooking the park (520, 418...

Stayed for berlin marathon. Very clean with beautiful ( very modern) rooms. Breakfast excellent and staff very friendly and multilingual. Easy bus access everywhere. The only thing I would change is to have wifi included in room rates. Awesome heated bathroom floors. Duvets on beds are nice and beds very comfortable.

Very pleased overall with the hotel. Recently refurbished, which meant that the rooms and particularly the en suite bathroom were very good. Location is good. Easy bus transport to all tourist attractions (Bus 200) but also Bus 100 only a short walk away.

Staff at the hotel helpful and friendly. Breakfast perfectly adequate in terms of choice - not the best we have experienced, but good to go!

We used the leisure facilities - just the pool.Yes, a bit small, but adequate for a swim as long as there are only a few people using..

Food and drink expensive at the hotel. Recommend the Greek Restaurant within walking distance - excellent food and a house wine for 12 euros a litre which was !!!.

Would definately go back to this hotel.

We booked a stay for seven nights at the Pestana to use as a base for exploring Berlin. Overall, it was a good experience and with a few improvements, it could be truly excellent in its class. We booked online four months in advance and made a special request regarding the room choice which went unanswered. It wasn't critical but it would've been nice to have had a reply, positive or negative. The hotel is located conveniently next to the 200 bus stop which goes to central Berlin, and it's only a short walk to the U- and S-bahn stations next to the zoo. The hotel is situated between the edge of the Tiergarten on one side and a residential/commercial area on the other (it's next-door neighbor is the Korean Embassy), so the area is leafy and green and pleasantly quiet.

After a bit of misadventure with our flight to Berlin due to a storm, we arrived at the hotel around midnight. The hotel is only about 20 minutes from Berlin Tegel, which was quite convenient. I had alerted the hotel to our late arrival and was reassured by the staff member I spoke with. From the outside the hotel is uninteresting and box-like, but the lobby is an airy and open large space, thanks to its glass sides, with an adjacent bar area. Check-in was a bit off-putting due to the unwelcoming demeanor of the reception staff member; happily, I can say that the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful at every turn throughout our stay. The interior of the hotel is modern design, with a soothing blue and white décor and sea theme. It succeeds but the whale song in the elevator is a bit much to take.

Our top-floor room was spotlessly clean and spacious, with wood flooring throughout (no icky carpet), and well-appointed with comfortable furniture, a coffee-maker (which the staff replaced at our request with a hot water kettle for tea), and a large wall-mounted flat screen tv offering 80-odd channels from EU countries. One wall was floor-to-ceiling glass with a door leading to a small terrace with a table and two chairs and a beautiful view of the Tiergarten and the Siegessaule monument. Better partitioning between the room terraces would be a good idea for added privacy; the gap between the end of the partition and the exterior wall is wide enough to allow a clear view of neighboring terraces and I really didn't want to have a view of my neighbor in his underwear. The room also featured an iPod station with speakers and a clock, which is always welcome. The basic internet service (non-wifi) on offer was quite slow so we ended up getting a wifi subscription for several days, which was not too unreasonable at 10€/day but irritating nonetheless. Wifi is available in the lobby/bar area, but that isn't the same as the comfort of one's own room and they need to incorporate wifi into the room fee. In the 21st century, guests reasonably expect a fast wifi connection in their rooms. The king-size bed was very comfortable (i.e. moderately firm and not two beds pushed together as one often finds in Europe) with quality linens and plush pillows that made it difficult to get out of bed. The rooms are sound-proofed so there was no noise from outside to disturb one's rest. The closet space was a good size for two people's things and the minibar prices didn't give one sticker-shock as in many other hotels.

The bathroom was large and delightful with the same soothing blue and white sea scheme, a glass-enclosed shower stall (no tub, which I personally prefer), and copious toiletries. It was brightly lit (and included a blue night light for those who don't like to go bump in the night), and the basin and glass shelf above it offered plenty of space for personal items. The bathroom's heated tile flooring was a very nice, and welcome, touch.

The breakfast was large and generally good, but it didn't vary at all from day-to-day and my partner strongly felt the lack of variety was a negative. It was also true, as he noted, that items were somewhat slow to be replaced and the staff sometimes seemed brusque as they maneuvered around guests. The dining room staff were efficient at clearing tables and were otherwise friendly and helpful. The dining room itself was fairly large, with a glass wall along one side that opened onto a terrace with tables for meals al fresco.

My partner also noted that the pool was quite small, but we really hadn't intended to use it much if at all. The hotel also offered bicycle rentals at what seemed a reasonable fee, and there was a small table in the lobby with computer, printer, etc. as a business point. All in all, I'd recommend the Pestana and I hope they will make the small improvements that will make it a truly excellent hotel.

Room Tip: For the best views, request a top-floor room overlooking the Tiergarten.
