“First class hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

Stayed at the Radisson Blu Berlin for 6 nights with some family and friends.
I'm sure much of this was covered in previous reviews, but hope you will find this review useful nonetheless:
The Lobby, with its hanging 5-floor-high giant aquarium is absolutely amazing!!!
The location is great, two steps from the Berlin Dom, in between Alexander Plaz and the Brandenburg gate. You have easy access to public transportation: two minutes walk to tram and bus lines, 5 minutes walk to the nearest S-bahn station (Hackescher Markt) and 10-15 minutes walk to Alexander Plaz (U/S-bahn station).
The rooms are spacious, very modern, clean design, and very comfortable.
Breakfast is a feast, with literally too many choices, including a cook to order eggs/omelets and waffles station and everything you can possibly want in the buffet. We had 2 years old in our party, and were pleasantly surprised when the waitresses brought us some toys to keep him busy during breakfast, and even put us in the "VIP room" (where it was easier to keep him out of harms way) on some mornings. Tip: be sure to let the waiter know a day in advance if anyone in your party will be celebrating a special occasion during your stay, and you might get to surprise your loved one during breakfast. Very nice touch :-)
The SPA is very nice too: it
has a small but not very crowded swimming pool (don't miss the water jets at the deep end of the pool - the most powerful Jacuzzi jets you've ever experienced!), two saunas and a steam bath (wet sauna), and a small but perfectly usable gym with several cardio machines, a multi-trainer, one chest machine and some free weights.
All amenities, by the way, are available to standard room guests. "Business class" rooms cost a bit more, and also offer a Nespresso coffee machine in the room, and closer to the elevator location.
The reception staff were always very courteous and helpful. The Concierge desk was quite popular (sometimes causing long wait times), but again very friendly and helpful. Be sure to get your public transport pass, or the Berlin Welcome card here (they charge no commission!). You can also get tickets to the Aquadom and Sea Life Berlin neighboring attraction at a discount here, which will allow you to bypass the ticket box line. In addition to all the fascinating marine life in the display tanks, you can then take the elevator that runs INSIDE the giant aquarium you see in the Lobby. An awesome experience!
There was one unpleasant incident with one member of the concierge staff, but I would regard that as a fluke. In general they were fantastic, Martin in particular :-)
There is no shortage of great places to eat in Berlin. If you want to grab a quick bite near the hotel, I would recommend the NordSea just across the tram station. There are also several restaurants adjacent to the hotel, but I would recommend you take the 5 minutes walk to Hackescher Markt, where you'll find lots of great places for a meal and some very good beer. If you chose to sit outside, street entertainers will make sure you are kept amused while waiting for your order...
Berlin is great fun, with lots to see and do, and relatively inexpensive for a major Western European city. This hotel, though, being top class, is expensive, so suggest you try to find a deal, even if it means paying in advance. We managed to book our rooms for 1/3 the regular reservations desk price (and much lower than most internet rates too), which made it a real steal!

The minute you step into the foyer you will be blown away by the view in front of you! The aquarium is stunning and yet peaceful at the same time. The open plan foyer/bar/reception area is quiet and organised.
The staff were courteous amd helpful. The very friendly Laura from Frankfurt was working behind the bar and gets full marks for her pleasant, cheery attitude! Perhaps the Concierge could take a leaf out of her book?!
The rooms are spacious and well maintained. We had a little baloney overlooking a busy courtyard full of restaurants.
The breakfast is one of the best I've seen. I genuinely can't think of one other thing you could want for breakfast that wasn't available!
Be aware that in order to actually go inside the aquarium you must purchase a ticket for the nearby Sealife tour - €17 adults.
The hotel is right beside many of Berlins highlights and is less than a 10 minute walk to the Brandenburg gates down the Unter den Linden. Boat trips go from just beside tje hotel too. There is a sight seeing tour office just up the street where you can purchase tickets and the hop on-hop off bus tour leaves from just outside their door.
The amount of construction work going on in Berlin at the moment is unreal. There are literally cranes, diggers and workmen EVERYWHERE! The Radisson was an oasis in the middle of a busy bustling city. I would certainly stay in this hotel again.

Regrettably we only stayed one night. This is an exellent place, the best rooms, the best location, the best service you can expect. We were upgraded, and the view from our room was wonderful, covering both Alexanderplatz and the Cathedral. Do not miss out on the aquarium in the reception.

I booked this hotel in November 2011 as a surprise weekend break for my fiance. He found out where we were going at the airport and I was ful lof excitement when we walked into the hotel and he noted the aquarium suspended from the ceiling revealing this is where we would be staying.

I went to check in and was told that because of a 'computer glitch' the hotel was overbooked and we had to stay elsewhere. When asked why we were being bumped given we had booked 8 month in advance a shrug of the shoulders was received with the comment that the revenue manager had made the decision. However another couple on the same flight as us checked in no problem. What they meant was I had booked a package with discount and they had received a higher bid, most likely to do with the Audi event being held at their hotel or the fact that Dizzee Rascal was staying there with his entourage for the Greenville festival.

We were informed we had been rebooked to the Regent and that was our only option and dismissed. It was beyond disappointing and unprofessional. They even admitted that people who had booked after us didn't get bumped and they were unwilling to bump someone else.

You would have thought that a so called computer glitch which had happened 8 months before could have been noted before we arrived and that maybe someone could have had the decency to email in advance to discuss options and maybe offer more than one alternative option.

I appreciate hotels are in the business of making money, however when I booked and they took my money upfront they entered into a contract which they didn't honour. Would not recommend this hotel or ever stay there as they ruined the start of a long anticipated surprise break.

RD_Berlin, General Manager at Radisson Blu Hotel, Berlin, responded to this review, September 5, 2012
Dear Guest,

Thanks for your comment and time to give us your impression via Tripadvisor. As already outlined in July we regret the inconveniences during your stay at our Hotel. Due to a system error in – house the hotel was overbooked at the day of your arrival. Please be sure that we investigated matters to clarify this situation to ensure that this unacceptable shortcoming will be avoided in the future. “The Regent” is one of the most stunning 5- Star properties at Berlin and we decided to choose that specific luxurious property to make your alternative stay most pleasant.
Once more I would like to express my and my entire team´s sincerest apologies for the relocation to the Regent Hotel Berlin and the inconvenience caused. I would be delighted to discuss further improvements directly under gm.berza@radissonblu.com and that you give us a chance to reinstate ourselves in your good opinion. With best regards Ralph Goetzmann General Manager

As middle of the road travelers, this hotel was over our budget. We only had 2 nights in Berlin and the purpose of the trip was purely sightseeing.
Location: The hotel is situated behind the Berlin dome and a short walk from the Alexanderplatz. Since we had heavy luggage we used a taxi from Tegel airport and the cost was just over €20. During the 2 days, we used the hop on-hop off bus tours and this stopped right outside the hotel. Tip: There are 2-3 bus tour companies so use the ho-ho tour that comes around every 10-15 mins and not the one that comes around every 30min. There are sales people at every stop so check with them before you buy the tickets. We used the 2 day pass which we also used to get around the city.
Room: The double room and bathroom was clean but small (large by European standards). We had an outside facing room but ask for one that is on the inside and you can wake up to a view of the aquarium. A great thing about this hotel is that wi-fi is included in the rate and is available in the room unlike some hotels which only offer free wi-fi in the lobby.
Service: Staff were really courteous during check in/out, breakfast and when we had any questions.
Breakfast: Was included in the room rate and this is the usual hot and cold breakfast buffet. It was cold and rainy on both mornings we were in Berlin and the terrace was closed so space inside was limited and we had to wait a few minutes to get a table at around 10am.

Overall, this hotel seems more like a hotel for business travel but we enjoyed our stay would definitely recommend this hotel to friends/family and other travelers.

Room Tip: Request a room that is on the inside (facing the lobby) and you can wake up to a view of the aquariu...

I have stayed here many times over the last five years and have never been disappointes. The conferecen facilities are top notch and service always very friendly. The hotel is located very centrally and you can walk to most attractions.

I have had rooms towards the aquarium and the street and they have always been comfortable and silent.
