“Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

I stayed in this hotel one night last week on a business trip just because it is located close to the company I had to visit. The hotel is located in East Berlin, far from everything - even the tram to Center is more than 10 minutes walking. The room is large but not very comfortable. The breakfast is just ok.

Dear traveler,
thank you for your rating at TripAdvisor. The Holiday Inn Hotel Berlin City East is located just less than 15min away to the city center Berlin Alexanderplatz. Easily to reach by two tramlines, which drive frequently every 5-10 minutes and the tram station is 5 minutes away within walking distance to the hotel. We are happy to hear that you liked our many sided breakfast buffet. We hope you enjoyed your stay and we can welcome you as a guest again soon.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

Spent 3 nights here late April as part of a city trip; didn't expect much so were not dissappointed. Large room (#807) with plenty of space for putting up 2 suitcases flat comfortably (on clever chest-like contraption fixed to the wall); closet with 2 large mirrors; TV; window that can be opened (noisy due to a lot of traffic 24/7!); coffee & tea making facilities; desk; carpet with some stains; weird graffiti-style painting in bright greens and orange. Soft double bed consists of two beds set next to each other and two separate duvets; not very romantic. Clean bathroom with toilet, sink, hand-held shower, bath and hairdryer; ledge for putting on toiletries we found to be too narrow. Breakfast: buffet-style; as there are a lot of groups, you may have to wait a while before finding yourself a table (or share a table, as we did one morning); different kinds of bread and fruits, 2 kinds of yoghurt and juice, tea and awful coffee in thermosflasks. Berlin Welcome Card (for public transportation) can be bought at Reception Desk. Confusing: no door-tag to have your room made up, just one for not wanting to be disturbed; receptionist would pass this on to management. Public transportation nearby (we didn't feel unsafe at 10 pm when coming back); take the M6 at Altendorferstrasse directly to Hackescher Markt when wanting to go to the Museum Insel (turn right when leaving the hotel, then turn left, cross the car park and rails to reach the right platform). Depressing-looking neighborhood with lots of large apartmentbuildings; fortunately, spring is in the air, making it look a little better...

The hotel is located out of the city center but it good to reach by the two tramlines. The bed was great,I could sleep as a baby, but the bath could use some improvement. A bit dated and thereby looked somewhat dirty. The tv was old so everything was dated. The breakfast was international, nothing special. They say it is a four star hotel.I would give it less due to the lack of improvements the should do.

Whilst I agree the Hotel is clean and breakfast plentiful, I found the Customer Service lacking in that no advice was given in respect of Local Travel and only on the second day were we advised that we could obtain tram tickets at reception. Again, it would have been helpful had someone explained zones A B and C. This is very much a hotel for the business person and not for leisure.
If I visited Berlin again I would stay at the Park Inn in Alexanderplatz as this is in the hub of the activity in Berlin.

Dear Traveller,
Thanks for writing here on Trip Advisor. We are happy that you liked your stay. We appreciate that you noticed, that we are a clean Hotel and that the breakfast buffet is generous. We are really sorry, that our colleagues at reception did not induct you how to use the public transportation or how to get tram tickets. We will tell them to take care of it during the check in, because one day later is sometimes a little bit late. If you have some questions whilst your next stay, please do not hesitate to contact our colleagues.

overpriced. the hotel is located in one of the worst and poorest districts of Berlin, a long way from city centre. There is nothing around the hotel but huge low income residential blocks with just a small simple supermarket 10 mins walk away. avoid this hotel.

Nice Hotel in 30 minutes of tram M5 or M6 from center of in 20 from Aleksanderplatz. Big hotel consist of 3 buildings, rather cheap. Service and cleaning everyday at afternoon. Breakfast for 13 euro - nonsense, you can eat in ANY other place cheaper and better. Thin walls between rooms, you can hear what your neighborhoods doing.

In a very nice price we got a large, clean room in not so bad location (few stops by tram to city center). It's a big hotel, so if you're looking for little family hotel - it's probably not for you. Free parking and wifi!
