“Airport and City Convenient”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

Since I was flying out the following morning, I spent one night in this very conveniently located hotel. It was within walking distance of one of the main subway lines and just a few miles from the airport. The reception desk was most helpful and the room accommodation was super. It was a very comfortable place to spend a night before a long flight. Although the hotel itself is in a very quiet street, lots of activity: restaurants, fast foods places, pubs, etc. are within a few short blocks. The room rates were also quite reasonable and I recommend this hotel heartily.

Very clean and tastefully modern. Rooms well equipped and comfortable. Restaurant a little pricey but the dinner and breakfast were very good quality.
Very convenient for the airport and a useful shuttle service made access very easy. This is one of the best Holiday Inns I've stayed at.

Very quick overnight stay here, from Berlin Schoenfeld Airport it is quite close but the lack of signposting means you need to plan your short route from the Airport if you are driving as i was. There is a secure underground car park at the hotel.
Room was ok, typical for Holiday Inn really, but no soap bars (my personal irritation) just bottles of squeezy gel attached to the walls. Bed was comfortable and plenty of mostly-German TV channels to choose from. You can also open the windows if you want extra fresh air but the road outside is quite close, but not busy.
Had a quick drink and a burger in the bar as the football was on, good, quick service and the burger was excellent.
Reception were very helpful, quick checkin and checkout.
If i have to be near Schoenfeld again i would stay here.

Room Tip: Room not facing road.

Check in was cumbersome with the person at the front desk unwilling to answer any questions. The restaurant is good - service and quality of food leave nothing to be desired. The breakfast spread is fabulous and service during breakfast is brisk, friendly and professional. The rooms are clean and wi-fi is available on request, free of charge. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to the airport. The place would actually be good if people at the front desk were a little friendlier.

This hotel was very clean, modern and quiet. I stayed for only one night and had a very good room that was comfortable and quiet. I was a bit peckish when I arrived and raided the mini bar of its peanuts, crisps, coca cola and a snicker. The prices for all these items seemed very reasonable compared to some in other hotels and so was not put off having them. A good idea for any hotel that actually wishes to sell their mini bar items.
In order to reach the hotel from the airport I had to ring for a complimentary shuttle bus that was with me within 10 minutes and took me to the hotel. The hotel is situated in a rather depressing looking area surrounded by the odd large warehouse and open grassland, presumably awaiting further development. But I was not there for the views and if it is convenience you need for the nearby airport then it is well worth it.
The breakfast was another selling point. It had a very large choice of cereals, yoghurts, fruit, cheeses, cured meats, breads, jams and boiled eggs and other hot choices, amongst other things. Coffee was served at the table in a large coffee pot and there was juice aswell as an orange juicer, should you wish to have freshly squeezed juice. The staff were pleasant and efficient and all spoke English which, is great even if, like me, you want to try to use the limited German to communicate.
That morning, I was able to get my free shuttle back to the airport in readiness for my flight back home again.
The only downside was the free phone at the airport to ring for the shuttle bus was not working. That was not the hotel's fault of course and the woman at the nearby Tourist Information desk kindly rang from her phone for me. So all in all I feel that this is a great and not particularly expensive base for the business traveller or visitor who wishes to have a good and long sleep before flying from the airport.

A very convenient and professional stay.

A warm welcome from the staff at reception made the long trip and late time feel worthwhile. The shuttle from the airport was punctual and efficient - very much appreciated.

Room excellent with all the facilities I would associate a well know hotel chain.

I would definitely return.

Room Tip: Worthwhile paying a little extra for the Executive suite.

Overall, our experience at the Holiday Inn Airport Schoenwald was a poor one – we were made to feel like a ‘burden’ instead of a guest. The reception was cold and the leadership of management failed on so many levels. On many occasions, a little bit of compassion and hospitality would have turned our trip and experience around – but we did not find either at the Holiday Inn Schonefeld.

My group booked twelve ‘double’ rooms with two beds months before our arrival and we even called in early December to reconfirm our reservation. During this phone call we were given much faulty information which would come to light during check in on the evening of December 30 and the following morning.

Upon arrival at 22:00 PM – the three women working the desk were unable to locate our information – leaving our group of 22 jetlagged teenagers and co-staff waiting for nearly 60 minutes in the lobby. Finally, our reservation was found – however, it stated we only booked ‘single’ rooms - contrary to what we paid for and were promised (see reservation below) The three women explained there was nothing they could do for us – as our group would have to share queen size beds.

We explained that we ordered double rooms with two beds – but there was no record of this order and/or our reconfirmation phone call. I made the decision that we did not need all of the 12 rooms, as we felt uncomfortable leaving a 16 year old in a room by themselves & asked if we could have one cot and/or mattress delivered to one of the double rooms from the room we were not using. The front desk staff informed us they could not help, as all cots were currently lent out. When we inquired if we (as guests) could carry a mattress from one of the unused rooms into a room for three – the unhelpful woman exclaimed – absolutely not, as these were single rooms (despite the fact that we ordered & paid for doubles) – and only one person could sleep in each room.

After some pleading – they said we (as guests) could drag the mattress down two flights of steps and through the long hallway and do it ourselves. We went on to re-explain – that we paid for doubles and this mistake was on the hotel’s part. We pleaded they would help – but the desk seemed more intent on not bending the rules (despite their error) and not concerned with the groups comfort.

Finally, they bent and said give housekeeping ten minutes to make the move. However, this never happened.

I got a call at midnight from my group – explaining that the promised mattress from the unused room was never delivered. I immediately called the front desk and asked to speak to a manager. I explained that the front desk & housekeeping agreed to move the mattress from one of our unused rooms – but the manager claimed that we had to transport it ourselves – and this promise was never made. I reiterated that the desk staff assured they would have housekeeping take care of it – but he refused to listen. Claiming – we wasted enough of his time on us and I had to do this on my own.

I pleaded if the front desk could at least deliver extra pillows and a comforter for this teenager who was sleeping on the floor. The night manager said absolutely not - as there were no more blankets, pillows or beds available to spare for our group. After some internet research - I called Silvester back, informing him I just went online to hotels.com which verified double rooms were still available – and questioned why we were forced to be in singles and no ‘extra’ comfort could be spared (extra pillows, blankets).

He had no explanation – and rudely hung up – explaining I had already taken up enough of his valuable time. I explained that as a guest - paying for 12 room (spending over 1,000 euros) I needed him to make us feel like a guest – and not a burden. No such luck – just rudeness, arrogance and condescending/cocky remarks.

The Holiday Inn Berlin Airport Hotel’s incompetence did not end there – When we called to confirm our double beds in early December – my co-worker asked if the Holiday Inn could provide our group with croissants, yogurt & juice for breakfast. We were told the only option as a 20 euro breakfast (no ala carte menu) and the place did not open until 7 AM (we were leaving at 6:45 AM). To our surprise – in the morning the café DID have an ala carte menu and was open at 5:30 AM. This might not seem like a big deal, but we had a layover for 20 hours in Berlin & based our morning plans around the unavailability of breakfast at the hotel.

We allowed the teens to order food ala carte – but the one person running the buffet took nearly 45 minutes to have everyone pay their bill. We ended up late for our morning tour – having to reduce the time available on this expensive tour from 2 hours to 1 hour.

I am posting this because after 48 hours of informing management and Holiday Inn HQ about our horrible experience - we have not received a response - no cut & pasted email....no phone call of explanation - not even a 'sorry' Needless to say - the CEO of Intercontinental Group (owner of Holiday Inns) will also be hearing from me in the near future....

Stay Impressed - more like STAY DEPRESSED
