We booked a 4 night stay with easyJet using one of their holiday packages, which included flight, hotel and breakfast. For the dates we wanted to visit, it worked out cheaper than booking the items separately. We also booked in advance My driver (http://www.mydriver.com/) for the transfers 32 euros each way, they were very efficient.
Our room was on the 6th floor and very well appointed, with nice touches like fluffy bathrobes, slippers and a generous supply of toiletries. Housekeeping were also very quick to replenish coffees, milks etc when you telephoned to request more. The breakfast restaurant had great views of Genermanmarkt and the buffet breakfast provided an excellent choice of hot and cold food, with eggs cooked to order. There was a good atmosphere around the bar area with a pianist playing most evenings, you can also order some tasty snacks, like sweet potato fries with dips. Our only disappointing experience was on the first night when we dined in Mark Brandenburg restaurant. The standard of the food was average and the fillet steak ordered was not cooked as requested. The menu is also quite limited to red meat options.
One of the best things about this hotel is the location, Gendarmenmarkt square is beautiful with many bars and cafes in the surrounding area. Three places we can recommend that are on square, is the Newton Bar which has a good buzz, they have their own DJ and the staff are also very friendly, Suzanne especially made us very welcome. The other place is the Shan Rahimkhan café, which has a lovely selection of cakes and interesting types of tea. The Chocolate shop on the corner is a wonderful place and great for getting a few gifts to take home.
The tourist bus stops right in the square, for the hop and off circular tour. You can also easily walk to many places, such as Checkpoint Charlie, Jewish Museum, Brandenburg Gate, the Pergamon and Neues Museum, the Cathedral etc. We also walked to the River cruise point, it is really lovely to see Berlin from the River, the cruise is for about 1 hour and we found it very enjoyable. The Concierge at the hotel was very helpful and bus/museum /boat tickets can be purchased through them. There are also many theatres, prior to going to Berlin we booked via Expedia tickets for Show Me at the Friedrichstadt Palast, this was a fantastic show for pure entertainment.
We would definitely stay at the Hilton if we returned to Berlin.
