“Wonderful Suite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

I had a chance to use an SPG Suite Night upgrade in Berlin last week and was treated to a magnificent two-room suite. I highly recommend this property and if you have the chance, select one of the theme suites.

The room is very well appointed, modern and with a luxurious bath with a shower large enough for a pony. (Which I did not have, BTW)

The location is perfect for business, shopping, visiting historical sites and strolling along the river on a beautiful summer evening.

Room Tip: Try to upgrade if you have status or suite night awards -- it's worth it.

Great location, close to all the sights! We had a suite and it was very clean and oversized which was great for a family of 3. The restaurant was nice and the food good. Bar was full every night. The gym, spa and pool area were on the small side but were well taken care of and enjoyable. I had a one week stay and was there for business and leisure travel. Although we had a pleasant stay, they are not welcoming of Americans in general. This was a surprise as it is an American brand. This however seemed typical for the area.

Dear guest, it was so great that you were our guest. And we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. But we are concerned in regards to your impression that Americans could not be welcome here! Please be assured that is really not so. We do not make differences between the nationalities; all guests from all over the world are appreciated. We hope to get occasion to convince you from the opposite. Be welcome at any time! Yours Westin Grand Berlin Team, Andrea W.

Sleek spacious modern room with plenty of comfort and style. Lobby is expansive with plenty of seating, a great place to people watch or have some hot chocolate (we did both).

Room Tip: Corner room gave us extra room plus view of Unter den Linden.

Excellent location near important historical monuments and places of Berlin (Brandeburg Tor, Reichstadt, Check Point Charlie, musea island, ...). Metro station very close from the hotel. Very good buffet for breakfeast. Friendly staff (be careful with few errors like not have noted that breakfeasts were already paid). Wonderful "literie" (the best bed I ever have until now). We stayed in a parental suite = 2 rooms with a private corridor. Just a "bemol" : no bath only a shower. As Berlin is a very tiring town ...

The hotel is a standard Westin - so it is a step above many properties. A bit dated decor in lobby - very dark. Rooms were a good size, nice decor, comfortable heavenly beds, good lighting. Clean. We booked a garden view room with a queen but got a twin bedded room overlooking construction so it was noisy. Great location. Staff efficient not overly hospitable, including the concierge. Meeting space looked good.

Room Tip: Book gaden view for quiet room - construction around many exterior-looking rooms.

The Westin Grand Berlin is a gorgeous hotel, in a great location, with clean, comfortable rooms. It is also kind of expensive, but it's worth it. If you are in Berlin for sightseeing, the Westin is a perfect "home base". It is within easy walking distance of many of the best sights (the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, "Checkpoint Charlie", the Berlin Wall, Museum Island, etc.).

The pool/spa area is nice, but small.

The garden in the courtyard is a hidden gem.

Caution: The breakfast buffet is more expensive than you might guess (32 Euros/person).

Room Tip: Many of the rooms on the Friedrichstrasse (east) side of the hotel have small balconies, but not the...

As with any Westin, the service and quality of this hotel is great. It is indeed on the expensive side, so I would recommend eating outside of the hotel - there are tons of places nearby. Location is excellent, it is a 10 minute walk to most major sights.

Room Tip: Get a garden view room if possible.
