“Compelling”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

Anti-war and anti-persecution memorial with a simple clear message conveyed by the statue of a mother cradling her dying soldier son in her arms. It will take you 5 minutes to visit it and the point is clearly made. A beautiful building and monument.

“Go by walking down from Berlin Dome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012 via mobile

We just walked by not knowing at first that this was a monument. But what an impressive one! Take a moment to watch this statue of mother and son.

“Simple memorial...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

...but strong message. Stopped by this attraction as part of a walking tour and got a bit of the history behind it. Not sure I would have stopped by this unless it was on the tour. I am glad I did as it was a very strong reminder of the bond between parents and the love of ones country.

“Neue Wache is one of the most moving memorials in the world.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Neue Wache is one of the most moving memorials in the world. Just the German word "Gedenkstätte" meaning "place of remembrance or reflexion" gives me the shivers. The simplicity is breathtaking and the memorial is a must see in Berlin. But please do NOT go into the room as this ruins the grandeur and experience of the place for you and everybody else...

“Very moving”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

This is a very moving simple memorial to war victims. It's of a grieving mother holding her son. The statue is the only thing in the room with an open spot in the ceiling that lets in the sun and weather to add to the atmosphere created. It breaks war with millions of casualties down to the simplest personal denominator, a mother has lost a son. It's very sad. I can always picture my own mother there.
