“An impressive collection of paintings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2014

An impressive collection of paintings (In more then 70 rooms). Besides many religious paintings we found charming landscapes and portraits. The best painting in the gallery is "The Netherlandish Proverbs" by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. It's a pleasure to sit in front of the painting and explore the proverbs one by one. There are more than a hundred.

“An unexpected gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

An excellent gallery, which could rival the famous European galleries. Superb selection of paintings from artists such as Canaletto, Boticelli, Rubens, Van Eyck, Rembrandt and Vermeer. I also recommend visiting the café for a delicious lunch. The museum wasn't crowded, even on a Sunday and there were plenty of places to stop for a rest on your way round. Entry is free with a Berlin Museum pass.

“Treasure for the renaissance art lovers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014

Be clear that I'm not under any circumstances a true art lover / appreciator. My knowledge towards art and art history is only average but I still very much appreciate the art value from the painting inside the building. But you're like me, please do take the audio guide next to the ticket counter. It helped a lot in understanding the importance of those magnificent works. Also, the Gemaeldegalerie was one of the museums inside a composite building so it could be a little bit hard to find. Please take your Google map for that.

“Great collection, excellent audio guide”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014

Wonderful modern gallery 10-15 minutes walk from Potsdamer Platz u bahn. Extensive collection of European art, especially German, Dutch and Italian, with a few British artists. Very interesting audio guide to the main paintings. Entry was ten euros.

“The Best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2014

This was my most favorite museum in Berlin. It took me 4 1/2 hours to make my way through all the glorious works on display!
It was very quiet and uncrowded in a well lit, well laid out space. Everything was clearly marked, there was seating in many of the rooms, and there's a great central hall area for resting your eyes after all the gorgeous things seen.
The northern artists are well represented and it's a pleasure to look at all the tiny details they managed to include, the sumptuous drapery and the fabulous colors.
MUST SEE!
tips:
you may take non-flash photos so bring your camera!
you have to store your bags in a coin operated locker. you get your euro back at the end
if the natural lighting is obscured by clouds, the room guard will turn on more lights for you!
