“Experience the food court”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2011

On the top floor of this great store is the food court, what a place. We sat and had a meal cooked for us whilst we sipped wine. There isn't a food or drink choice that isn't catered for here. The rest of the store is great with a large collection of Steiff bears and some lovely contemporary household items but visit the food court and sample it's offerings. You won't be disappointed.

“Amazing food hall, loved the food court”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2011

Huge department store which was nice enough, but the amazing food hall with the wide selection of delectables is the real reason to visit. Great place to pick up some gifts (eg. chocolates). Had wonderful crepes with fresh strawberries at the classy food court.

“Nice store, amazing food market upstairs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2011

This Berlin shopping center is nice enough although the best part of our visit was going up to their delicatessen floor. The selection of fine foods, local as well as from all over the world, is truly amazing. In addition, the food court on the very top floor is also not shabby. Again it is not a cheap place to grab a bite but the food is fantastic. And if you enjoy fresh tropical fruit juices, the food court is just the place to go.

“Upscale shopping with an AMAZING gourmet food hall!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2011

After the historical sites of Berlin, this is the next MUST SEE thing on the list. It is a lot like Gallerie Lafayette in Paris. Multiple level department store with upscale shopping. The clothing departments carry the usual luxury and upscale brands, but the home department and gourmet food department are where its at. The food department is like a dream. Every type of food you could ever want and there are places to eat there too! You want pasta? They have it. Asian food, beer and wurst, cheese and wine bar...you name it. The best curry wurst I had in Berlin was at KaDeWe (their special currywurst). The The pastry section is also to die for. The filled "donut" type pastries which seem to be their specialty are out of this world (especially the vanilla). This place also has an entire room devoted to chocolate truffles where many truffle and chocolate companies have stands displaying their delicious creations. A visit to the food hall at KaDeWe is the closest you will ever get to Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory.

“There are several reasons to go if you're in the vicinity”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2010

This is a good place to duck out of the rain: you can go up on the escalators to get an overview and come down in the glass lift. Ironically we'd just returned from the Mauerpark area, full of the sombre history of East Berlin & Eastern Germany. We decided to treat ourselves to the full monty cake on the 7th floor with a huge glass window offering doubtless good views on a less soggy day. We reminded ourselves that when the Wall came down this was one of the first destinations for E Berliners keen to feel free and see 'the material world' - there was a traffic jam apparently. So we thought about them momentarily before tucking in. Luckily I can't find the receipt to recall what we paid, but it was our only tea in 3 days in Berlin so we ignored the prices.

KaDeWe is actually nearly 100 years old but was decimated in the War (incidentally, a pilot was shot down & crashed straight into it); the two top floors were only added in the 90's.
