“Sleek modern hotel in a good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

Stayed here only shortly, but the Scandic Hotel Berlin Potsdamer Platz proved to be of guaranteed good Scandic quality. Very well positioned only a short walk away from the Potsdamer Platz station entrance (the station entrance can be seen from the hotel), yet in a peaceful location with hardly any traffic around. Even the standard category rooms are spacious and modern, equipped with an empty minibar. In the superior class the minibar is filled and the contents of it included in the price!
Breakfast is not included in many of the rates they offer and the only downside of the place is its ridiculously overpriced breakfast (20€/person/night). It is a good Scandic breakfast, so don't worry if it is included in your rate, it will certainly fill your stomach. However, if the breakfast is not included, just walk across the Tilla Durieux Park in front of the hotel to the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden where you can find a number of eateries offering breakfasts from 5€ to 15€!
Some posters complained in the previous post that the promised view is not to the Potsdamer Platz. I guess it is because of not understanding what Potsdamer Platz really is. I.e. it's a much larger entity than just the street corner with the station entrance, SonyCenter and Bahn Tower. Scandic Hotel is located opposite the Daimler complex, the grassy strip of the Tilla Durieux Park is between the hotel and Daimler complex.
I will certainly have a look on this hotel again when I'm going to be in Berlin the next time (especially if the price remains as tempting as this time: 76€/room/night).

Room Tip: In superior rooms contents of the minibar are included in the room price.

I only stayed for 2 nights. Room was clean and modern with a flat screen tv. Bought bottled water at the front desk for 3 euros / bottle. Read that the hotel has water dispenser but could not find it. Brief encounters with staff were pleasant. Breakfast provided lots of selections from pastries to cheese, juice, yogurt, sausages, bacon and boiled eggs...There was even one of those fancy coffee machines. Breakfast at the hotel was quite busy at the end of July. Was advised that Checkpoint Charlie and Brandenburg gate were within walking distance but did not try to walk there. Overall I had a nice stay and would recommend the hotel.

Pro - The most comfortable beds, thick mattress, fluffy pillows, the best sleep ever, (as long as its cool outside which almost every day even at summer), TV with English news channels, nice, courteous, friendly and helpful staff, good English, opposite the road is the Potsdam shopping centre, most of the stors staff knows English relly good, a sub train station to anywhere, allmost attached (but you dont hear it), great breakfast and varied (minus the coffee)

Con - If there was a competition on a smallst closet hotel , this hotel will be the first place winner , it is better to leave all clothes in the Briefcase, climate control (controled from the TV) stops at night and if its warm outside, its hard to sleep well, even though the beds are comfortable, luckly ther are not alot of warm nights in Berlin, even in mid-August, there is no explanation of how to activate the elevator (with the hotel card) and to get to the free Internet access (not just even if you found the web site), for some reason ther ware plenty of body soap, but not hair shampoo, the towel shower are really small.
No nice view.
but as you understand this very small things to complain about, we had an enjoyable stay,

Really enjoyed my stay in the hotel, would go again. Getting from Tegal airport to the hotel was really easy! Bus then underground took about 35 mins. Tube stop right by the hotel. Room on the top floor, handy for the gym.

My wife and I had the terrific experience of staying a week at the Scandic Berlin Potsdamer Platz hotel. There are several reasons why we thought that the hotel was wonderful. First, the staff was always helpful, friendly, and considerate. The people at the front desk all spoke English fluently, and they were extremely sensitive and responsive to our requests. The staff gave us superb directions on how to see the various Berlin, Germany, sites. The staff is extremely well trained. Second, the location was very central to the places we wanted to see. We could walk to Potsdamer Platz, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews, the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate, etc. The U Bahn line was literally next door to the hotel, and it was easy to travel to the Museum Island, etc. The S Bahn line was just a couple of blicks away. There was an arcade practically next door with food outlets, shopping, grocery markets, etc. The restaurants nearby in the Potsdamer Platz such as Josty's were great. Third, the breakfasts were amazing. There was about 100 different items, and the food was great. We really enjoyed the herrings, cheeses, breads, fresh fruits, etc. They even had food there for those individuals who needed gluten -free items. We left early in the morning to return to the United States, and the staff arranged a breakfast for us to take to the airport. Literally, they gave us two shopping bags filled with a sandwich, fresh fruit, a tomato, cucumber, etc. Fourth, the rooms and the entire hotel was very, very clean and functional. The room that we had for seven nights was very comfortable and quiet. What was interesting was that the key card was entirely blank for safety purposes. The rooms were "high tech," and we had to adjust the air conditioning through the use of the television. A staff person showed us how to do this. I would have preferred a lower temperature, but it was all right. At times the bathroom door slid open, but we soon figured out how to prevent this from happening. To be honest, if we were to travel again to Berlin, we would choose this hotel.

Room Tip: Send an e-mail to them about the desired room.

The room I has was fine (bed a bit short) but no minibar or bottled water in the room, there was no information in the room re restaurants etc. It was very clean. I ate in the restaurant a couple of nights, both time was very empty as was the bar and there was no atmosphere in the hotel. Breakfast was good.

It is far from being a bad hotel but it lacks something, will try others again first.

I visit Berlin 20+ times a year for work.

Fancy, very new and attractive hotel. The location is great; verny near to a subway station and walking distance to Potsdamer Platz, where there are a lot of bars and restaurants to grab a bite/drink at night. All very clean and well organised. The room has a standard size, but because of the windows till the ground, the room is very bright and pleasant. Nice bed, good bathroom.
The breakfast is superbe!!! So much choice of food, anything you can think of! And some organic too, the honey comes from bee-hives upon the roof!
The green-idea follow up in the ability to lend bikes at the hotel; you get them at no cost of half a day!
I would surely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Berlin!
