“Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

The decor is good, and the rooms are decent. It is right outside the Berlin Central Station, which was why we chose this place. The lobby was constantly packed with teenagers hanging out. That made it seem rather weird.

We've stayed here for 3 nights and it was alright. We had a room for 4 but it was clean and offer enough space for groups that are using the hotel just for sleep. The hotel has excellent communal facilities (roof terrace, lobby seating area etc...) which is great for larger groups. Also you have free internet. There was a building site and the central station just across from the hotel but you can barely hear the noise which was great. Having the Central Station near the hotel was excellent and you can reach any point easier and rapidly. I really liked this place and it's a very good an cheap pick when you are in Berlin.

Room Tip: have a beer on the roof terrace.

I stayed here with friends over New Years Eve for 3 nights with four of us sharing a bunk room.

The hotel is in a great location with friendly and well-informed staff. The rooms are basic but clean and offer enough space for groups just looking for somewhere to lay their heads. The hotel has excellent communal facilities (roof terrace, lobby seating area etc...) which is great for larger groups.

N.b. there is a building site just across from the hotel and work does seem to start very early but with the windows closed you can barely hear the noise... Something to consider if you're planning on long lie-in's.

Overall, I'd recommend this hotel.

For a budget hotel we found this to be a good choice. The very short walk to the main Berlin station was very satisfactory and gave us brilliant links to all the places we wanted to visit. Our room overlooked the station but we were unaware of much noise from that at all even with the window open which was suprising. However the station is enclosed within a glass dome.
The rooms were not huge but very adequate and nicely furnished and fitted with a smart bathroom etc . There seemed to be some teenage tour groups going on whilst we were there but we had none on our floor so maybe they segregated those groups. We certainly had no issue with children running and shreiking in corridors etc. Reception staff spoke many languages and were helpful. As per usual we had a few problems with electronic door keys- do they ever work????
The surrounding area was a little bleak and we would have liked some nice streets to walk and find restaurants and bars etc in the evening . However the new station interior has a lot of restaurants and food halls so in fact we had no problem finding somewhere to dine albeit it wasnt such a pretty venue. We can recommend the kebab cafe opposite Mc Donalds where we got very reasonably priced shish kebabs and beer and the Asian Gourmet nearest corner to entrance which we only found on the last day that was excellent and again very well priced about 5 euros per head.
NB WARNING -we bought tickets for our 3 day weekend for unlimited travel @29.50 euros per head from a machine and were dismayed to find it printed 3 correctly for 72 hours and 2 for only 48 hours (5 of us in total.) Absolutely no one was around to complain (even on this busy station) as we arrived late in the evening. First thing in the morning we went to the office in the station to try to sort it out and the chappie there was totally obnoxious and would not help at all and accused us of lying which really did upset us all and we had to pay for another days tickets for 2 of us which was particulalry galling.
Later we found out that we could have in fact bought a group daily ticket for all 5 of us for only £15 euros which would have made a total cost for all 5 of us for the whole of 3 days for only 45 euros instead of 159.50 euros we paid. ( the guy in the station office must have known that so was even more unhelpful since we had in fact overpaid anyway in buying our original tickets
We found many of the Berliners very rude and PR skils absolutely non existent from waiters, bakery staff and station office guy . Since we had a fluent German speaker in our group we could not put that down to the language barrier. However we did meet some lovely people and overall we really enjoyed our break in Berlin and can recommend Meininger Hotel.

Room Tip: we were on the 8th floor opposite the station and personally found the noise a very minor issue

The reception of this 'hotel' is the same one with the hostel. I didn't really enjoy it, because there were heaps of young people who were partying in the evening. The lounge is always crowded because of the people staying at the hostel.

The good thing about this place is that it was really close to HOF. I had to be at the airport early in the morning, so it was quite convenient as there is an airport express train (3.5 euros) that gets you from HOF to Schoenefeld airport in just over half an hour. But it doesn't really matter where you stay, because Berlin's public transport system is quite awesome, and the stations are equipped with escalators and elevators which means that you won't have to carry your big suitcase up the stairs (which was something I wanted to avoid).

The staff were nice, but they were always really busy, and there was a cue most of the times.

The room was small, and I requested for a double bed as I was a solo traveller, but got two single beds instead which was just inconvenient for me. I couldn't sleep until early morning, because in the room just across of mine was a big 'party'. Poor sound-proofing in the rooms.

Overall, my stay was not the most pleasant one. It is very unlikely that I will ever return to this 'hotel' (which is more a hostel with some private rooms).

Room Tip: If you are looking for a place to rest, this is not a place for you.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Easy to get to and being so close the the station means everywhere else is easy to get to too - a trait of Berlin. Noise minimal despite trains running 24/7

My husband and I just spent 5 days in Berlin and stayed at the Meininger Hotel The main advantage of this hotel is its excellent location, just a stone throw away from the Central Station and within walking distance not only to a number of main attractions but also a couple of good restaurants. The TXL bus to Tegel airport passes very close to the hotel This excellent review being given is also due to the clean rooms (spotless bathrooms), satisfactory breakfast, helpful staff and very good value for money.
