“Good, clean, modern but expensive wifi!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

I was assigned this hotel for a last-minute trip and had no real expectations, so I was pleasantly surprised by the standard. The room was modern, clean and actually pretty cool. Bathroom was also clean with a good quality shower and pretty powerful hairdryer.

The room was cleaned every day. The bed was very comfortable although the pillow was a bit thick, but that's a matter of personal taste. The amenities/services were very basic, nothing fancy.

The major minuses: Wifi was horrendously expensive ("reasonably priced" according to the hotel info), especially considering the number of hotels and cafés with free wifi. There is a free connection in the lobby but you need a new username/password every time which makes it a bit of a hassle, and the connection was pretty slow.

Also, my tv was only set up with a few German channels, nothing international and very different to the channel guide in the hotel info. I complained and they said they would send a technician but this didn't happen.

Breakfast selection was standard but good.

Location was pretty good - a few minutes' walk to the local U-bahn and S-bahn and very close to the Tegel airport bus. Quiet neighbourhood, no noise at night.

I agree with just about all the reviews of the Abba. It is convenient, bright, cheerul and friendly. Breakfast is good and the bedrooms and bathroom are beautifully clean. The TV issue needs to be sorted as we were told that it was a short term problem that we could only find one English channel but as the reviews show it is a long term problem. Other than that the staff went out of their way to make sure we had a really enjoyable stay. I recommend the two day bus tour from the nearby Ku'dam as we found all the main sites and then returned to them at a more leisurely pace. The Abba would certainly be our choice of any Berlin stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are very quiet

This hotel is very well located for shoppers, and a good location for local transport! It's just around the corner from an excellent choice of restaurants with first class service. The rooms are lovely and clean (though I wouldn't rely on using their toiletries). Breakfast was fine-though a little over priced.

We made our reservation through late rooms, and on arrival we found that the hotel had no booking for us. However, the hotel staff were very apologetic and swiftly sorted out our room out.

It was disappointing that the jacuzzi was still broke, and there was only two channels in English-but lets face it, when you're in Berlin you just want to get out and about!

The disappointing part about our stay was our departure, in that we'd specifically requested a taxi to take us to the airport which was very late. The lady on reception was unconcerned and kept telling us it was on way. We ended up hailing a taxi off the street in the end.

The hotel is in a good location if you like to shop. It is one block away from the primary shopping street in Berlin. It was very clean, had excellent food, it is safe, the rooms were large and had a fridge and safe in the room. The only negative is that it had only a few channels in English. channels in English

The hotel is nice and centrally located in the west part of Berlin. Breakfast was excellent. The staff is very polite, knowledgeable about things to do in the area, and always ready to help. We were placed in a room facing the street. As the weather was hot and the air condition failed we had to open the windows for fresh air but the noise from the busy street prevented any rest. We asked and were moved with no further questions to a room facing the court yard which was very quiet. There is no free internet in the rooms and the free connection in the lobby is limited to 1 hour. However we were never refused when asking for additional time. The Jacuzzi advertised among the hotel facilities was out of order to our disappointment for the complete 5 days we stayed in the hotel.

The location of "Abba" is excellent: just off the popular and trendy Kurfurststendamm Blvd. Walking distance to the Zoo area, where there's lots of transportation (including the worthwhile Bus 100 and 200). Lots of shops, restaurants, cafes and a supermarket right across the street.
The hotel itself is very nice. Modern and comfortable. Breakfasts are huge and delicious. Our room was cleaned each day of our five day stay. The gym is free of charge and open all day long: a wonderful surprise. The staff is quite friendly.
Two criticisms: for those of us without laptops or I-pads, there is no computer in the hotel lobby for guests' use. This is extremely rare in 4-star hotels, and very disappointing. Second, there are only two English-language t.v. broadcasts available on the cable t.v. This is another rarity and disappointment.
All in all, our stay at the "Abba" was very pleasant, and we certainly recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room NOT facing the building site that is nearby!
