More thumbs up for the Circus Hotel, and many thanks to TripAdvisor reviewers in recommending it. My husband and I stayed for 8 nights in early September. The "prequel" to the trip was very positive and inspired confidence -- any questions I'd e-mailed were answered promptly, and the hotel's website is exceptionally helpful. I felt very much at home from the moment we walked in the door after a night and morning of travel. Our room was ready early. Reviewers had recommended requesting a room that faced the courtyard, and our junior suite was quiet, had plenty of light and a lovely view. The hotel -- like Berlin itself -- is full of personality. Clearly, a lot of thought went into the design and decoration of the rooms and public areas. Instead of long, dreary, or generic hallways, the corridors at the Circus zigzag interestingly and the hallways themselves are eye-catching. Our room had distinctive areas of color -- walls, the headboard, and touches that were both fun and functional. There was ample room to hang and tuck away clothes and other belongings, and the bathroom was spacious and well-lit. Other thoughtful features were evident in the public areas, including a selection of books of interest to a visitor to Berlin and a comfortable place to sit and go through them.

The staff was friendly and helpful. They helped us get tickets to see Berlin's ice hockey team play as well as making the reduced-rate subway pass available and giving directions. Katrin, the manager, hosts occasional rooftop receptions for the guests, and truly seems interested in talking to each of us and helping us get the most out of our stay. On our last morning, she rushed out into the rain to help us hail a taxi to the train station

This was our first visit to Berlin and we were delighted with the location of the hotel. A vibrant neighborhood, full of casual and reasonably-priced restaurants, a variety of shops, and with many museums and other attractions an easy walk. And a U-Bahn stop is just steps away for covering more ground -- Berlin is a sprawling city with more neighborhoods than we could hope to explore even in a week.

We enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the hotel -- enough variety for most tastes, all very fresh. Bracingly good coffee. Easy to tumble downstairs and enjoy the relaxing breakfast areas, including the outdoor patio. The schnitzel at Fabisch (the hotel's restaurant) for dinner is a standout.

On future travel to Berlin, I can't imagine bothering to look around for a hotel that does as many things right as this one. The only possible concern would be for visitors arriving during the hottest part of the summer. The room fan, plus open windows, kept our room comfortable. With the hotel's commitment to sustainability and therefore no air conditioning, it may be a lot warmer indoors than some travelers are used to, especially for sleeping. For the rest of the year, it's likely a non-issue.

We found this hotel on TripAdvisor and couldn't believe our luck. We don't particularly like getting taxis from the airport as we like to immerse ourselves in the different culture of the country we are travelling in and so use public transport wherever we can. The information on the website was so informative as to how to find the hotel from the airport (even came with a great walk through video). The hotel is very conveniently situated next to the metro.

The hotel is in an area where there are backpackers so is adjacent to good, clean reasonably priced restaurants as well as trams, buses and the metro. The perfect location for entertainment as well but is also quiet in your rooms!

Once we arrived the room was very comfortable overlooking a lovely courtyard where we later ate a beautiful breakfast and dinner. The staff were exceptionally helpful sourcing out extra gluten free bread for my husband as well as giving us tourist tips and places to see.

We have never been to a hotel that has provided us with as much helpful information for local things to do as The Circus. Very modern, very informative and very well priced.

We would highly recommend this hotel.

I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and liked it so chose it again for my recent visit to Berlin. It does not disappoint. I love the quirky individual bedrooms which combine interesting, colourful furniture with great comfort, and plenty of clever storage even in a smallish place. Spotlessly clean too.
The common areas are common and friendly, and the generosity in providing iPads and books around the place make me feel a trusted and valued guest.
Lots of good touches too, like the renting out of transport passes at a reduced rate.
We had breakfast there a couple of times. The German cheese and meat breakfast is enormous!
I appreciate the efficient communications too, both before and after my trip.
Wonderful location too. A bustling area, surrounded by lots of good cafes and restaurants, right next to a station, and a short walk to many main Berlin sights.
Perfect!

Room Tip: If you want quiet, ask for a room overlooking the courtyard.

We stayed at the Circus Hotel for 4 days in September 2013. We booked a junior suite, and it was a beautiful room with a bird motif - coordinated wall paper and lamp covers. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was large with a big shower area. There was an electric tea kettle in the room and some wonderful tea, and you could get a French press and ground coffee from the front desk and make coffee in the room, which was such a cool idea. The men and women who worked at the front desk could not have been friendlier or more helpful. They were amazing. They helped us save money on public transportation by renting out a monthly pass. The hotel even lets you borrow ipods, which we did so we could listen to an audio guide for riding around on the 100 and 200 number buses in Berlin. There is a cafe on the main floor of the hotel with wonderful, healthy breakfast options. The hotel is a few steps from public transportation, and close to wonderful restaurants and shops. It is ideal.

This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel. It is very well positioned for the Berlin Marathon as it goes right past it. It is adjacent to the underground and tram stations, so is very easy to get around. It is also possible to wall to most of the major sights. The rooms was of a good size and had a large en-suite. All was very clean and tidy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A couple of minor complaints would be that over this weekend this year you have to book for a minimum of 3 Nights. I noticed it appeared to be a lot quieter this year perhaps because of this. Also we came back to the hotel about quarter passed midnight and were told the bar was now shut and we were not able to get a drink. Having said this I would stay at the hotel again. They do great cakes at the bar. There is also free wifi.

Room Tip: Having looked at the fire escape plan some rooms look a lot smaller than others.

Our room was very spacious and clean. The shower was very large with good water pressure (just what you need after a long day). The staff were very helpful and provided us with heaps of information. The hotel was also close enough for us to walk to many places of interest. All in all a very good experience

Room Tip: Our room faced the courtyard and was very quiet.

We stayed for three nights in a „junior suite“ (101) facing the courtyard. This was the last courtyard junior suite available when we reserved, and it was quite nice. It is actually a spacious, square double, but very well organized. Obviously a lot of thought has gone into making the rooms functional. For instance, there are plenty of nice, wooden hangers that are not attached to the rack, so you can hang up your clothes properly, and the safe is not located at floor level, so you can use it without lying down on the floor. There is an electric water kettle and lots of tea and sugar, but packaged coffee and a cafetière (French press) must be asked for at reception, milk from the restaurant. We ended up just going down to the restaurant for our coffee.
The hotel does provide shampoo, bath gel and body lotion. The tubes are on a shelf next to reception and you just take what you need. They are fairly large, so the two of us didn’t even use up one of each during our stay. The room was attractively, if cheaply furnished and there were fresh flowers on the little table between two comfortable if smallish chairs. The bathroom was very large and luxurious, with a big walk-in shower and plenty of hooks and towel racks, including a heated towel rack. There is also a decent hair dryer (I couldn’t find this information in any of the other reviews or the website) and two electrical outlets in the bathroom.
If I had a niggle, it would be the lack of nightstands and reading lights. There was a recessed shelf running behind the bed to put things on, but it was so high that one had to sit up in bed to reach it, and there was only one halogen light directly over the middle of the bed, so it was impossible for one person to read without the other person having light right in the face. The switch was only on one side of the bed. Mattress and pillows are comfortable.
As has been said by others, the location is fantastic and you can access any part of town within just a very few minutes.
The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. There is a computer for guest use in the lobby (in the afternoons – staff use it in the mornings) and you can also use their printer to print out your boarding card.
We ate several meals in the Fabisch restaurant: breakfast, lunch, afternoon coffee (lovely carrot cake!) and dinner. We thought it was great. I loved the enormous müsli, fresh fruit, yoghurt selection. The buffet costs 8€ but you can alternatively order a cooked breakfast a la carte. Food in general was very fresh, well-prepared and very reasonably priced. The menu changes every month. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing. There are Ipads, books, newspapers and audio cds for patrons’ use, and some people seemed to tuck in and spend hours there.
For Berlin or any metropolis, this hotel offers great value for money. It is not quiet, however. Even the courtyard rooms would be noisy in the summer, when people would be sitting outside (it is part of the restaurant). There is no air-conditioning, so it is best at a time of year when you can live with closed windows. Reserve months in advance to get a junior suite facing the courtyard. We certainly will stay here again whenever we come to Berlin.

Room Tip: Unless you can sleep with a lot of noise, choose a courtyard room.
