I stayed in this hotel with my school group on a trip to Berlin. For a youth hotel and considering the price, it was excellent. The rooms were basic - bunk beds, table, chairs and wardrobe like lockers, but, very clean and the beds were very comfy. Each room also had a wash basin, but the toilets were separate, and each pair of rooms shared a shower between them (the shower is stuck in the middle of the two rooms and leads off from the wash basin compartment of each room. If you do go to this hostel, the showers are very confusing because they have locks on the outside, but not on the inside, what you have to do is go into the shower and there is a little bench attached to the wall by brackets which you fold down, and so lock both the doors leading form the two rooms - ingenious! (Unfortunately, no one showered for three days when we got there because we couldn’t figure this out :S oops!) and then you can lock your from the other room by locking the door. Anyway we went in winter, so it was quite cold, but there was a little bit of beach and absolutely amazing views over Lake Wannsee.
I only had two problems:-
- Communal toilets which were very clean, but still smelt a bit funny (probably due to lack of windows in the toilet room)
-The staff weren't the best English speakers (although it is a German youth hostel and we were usually the only non speaking guests they had (our school uses the hostel regularly for the Berlin trips))
Still I can imagine that in the summer, the place would be absolutely lovely with the lake and beautiful grounds :)
Oh and the food was good. Apparently the meat dishes were nice, but they also served very nice vegetarian dishes too. If you are fussy about meat, go for the vegetarian option because they like to serve lots of types of animal from lamb to pork to beef to chicken to rabbit and often offal.
