We 'd looked for it on our way to The Brandenburg Gate earlier in the day and we were glad as it's not easy to find. You need to look for the Westin Grand Hotel on Beherenstrasse. There's a service alley to the left of the hotel, numbered 55. As you go along there, it doesn't seem right, but carry on, turn right past some bike racks in a cage, the lfet under a totally unexpected chandelier! You'll see some stesp in fornt of you and a very unprepossessing door. Ring hte bell and you're in. They certainly don't go out of thier way to announce themselves. But maybe they don't need to. We hadn't prebooked, and we were lucky to get a table. Some people arrived later and were turend away, but we did get the feel that they look at how you're dressed, pretend to consult the bookings on the computer, and say they're full if youre still in your tourist day clothes - as the couple they turend away were. Another smarter dressed couple arrived later without a booking and they were given a table.
We shared a starter, had 2 mains, and shared a pudding. They were happy to bring extra plates, and still gave us the 4 euros discount for 3 courses. The food was really really tasty. They'd done an English version of the menu which helped as some of the ingredients were unusual even for somebody like myself who knows a fair bit of German. Choices were good and we found it hard to decide as they all sounded tasty. We were not disappointed.
There's a nice atmosphere and the staff are really friendly, but they were clearly on a mission to get you to order more wine and came annoyingly often to top up our glasses. The food was beautifully presented although portions were a tad small for my husband.
Our bill came to more than 100 euros whihc is far more than we would normally spend on a meal on a city break, so don't go if youre on a budget. But if you want a really different veggie experience, then do look it up - and book before you go!
